I am obsessed with spinning chunky yarn. It took me a while to get the hang of it, the slowness of it.

This cowl I made from lofty, 2ply chunky yarn, soft and light and cozy around your neck. The cable is big and loose, and I used only one and three-quarters repeats to make it look asymmetrical.

I made it all a little longer than most neck-only cowls (9 inches vs. the more typical 6 inches), for scrunching and so I could pull it up over the bottom of my ears.

This cowl in worked in the round. It consists of a single large center cable offset by Trinity Stitch.

Trinity Stitch (Over a multiple of 4 stitches, worked in the round):
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: [(P1, k1, k1) in the same stitch; k3tog]; repeat to end.
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: [K3tog; (p1, k1, p1) in the same stitch]; repeat to end.

Big Cable (Over 22 stitches, worked in the round):
Rounsd 1 and 2: P2, k18, p2.
Round 3: P2, k6, C12F, p2.
Rounds 4-10: P2, k18, p2.
Round 11: P2, C12B, k6, p2.
Rounds 12-16: P2, k18, p2.

C12F: Slip next 6 stitches to cable needle and hold in front of work.  K6, then k6 from cable needle.
C12B: Slip next 6 stitches to cable needle and hold in back of work.  K6, then k6 from cable needle.

DIRECTIONS
Cast on 66 stitches using your favorite stretchy method. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist.  Place marker for start of round.

Set up round: P2, k18, p2; place marker, p to end.  Note: this counts as the first round of the Cable pattern.

Pattern round: Work Cable pattern to marker; work Trinity Stitch to end of round.
Repeat Pattern Round until all 16 rounds of Big Cable pattern are complete, and work until 14 rounds of a second repeat are complete.

Bind off, making the Cable portion bind-off tighter than the Trinity Stitch portion to ensure the cable is not floppy at the top.

FINISHING
Weave in ends. Block, paying particular attention to pinning out the cable.
