Tangy

This shawl is based on a pattern sometimes seen in woven leather. Both the warp and the weft increase, and then decrease in width, resulting in a subtle wave-like effect. Here, the idea is reproduced in knits and purls.

Make it a little narrower and you've got a great scarf, for both men and women.

spacer Berroco Inca Gold [80% merino wool, 20% silk; 122yd/112m per 50g hank]; color: #6404, Caramelo; 9 hanks

Recommended needle size:
spacer 1 set US #7/4.5 mm straight needles

GAUGE
20 sts/28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette st
23 sts/28 rows = 4 inches in charted pattern stitch

Row 2 [WS]: K2, work chart pattern to last 2 sts, k2.

Continue working chart pattern, working 2 sts at each edge as established, until work measures 84 inches or desired length, ending with a WS row.

BO all sts knitwise.
FINISHING
Weave in ends. Lightly steam block piece to fully expose the woven pattern.
