Knitty: little purls of wisdom

Tangy

This all-seasons pullover was an ode to cool summer evenings. The crossed stitches mimic classic fisherman's sweaters and handmade wicker furniture.

The body has a slouchy relaxed fit, with long lean sleeves that slide easily into a jacket and can be worn cuffed or not. Choose the size that gives 3-8" of positive ease (that's a finished measurement 3-8" larger then the upper bust, measured around the ribcage at the underarm) for a comfortable casual weekend sweater.

If you prefer a more tailored look and want your Jamestown pullover to fit true to size, choose the size that most closely matches your actual measurements and adjust the sleeves accordingly. The Crosshatch pattern has more give than a traditional cable stitch would, but going up to the sleeve for the next size up will result in a more balanced silouette. Just remember to work the raglan shaping to match the body.

spacer
When there are no longer enough stitches to work the C4L and C4R crosses continue work in St st.

PDW (Purl double wrap): Purl the stitch, wrapping the yarn two times around the needle.
Note: Number following "PDW" designates total number of sts over which pattern is worked (e.g. "PDW 4" means work Purl Double Wraps over next 4 sts).

C4R (Cross 4 Right): Slip 4 with yarn in back, dropping the extra wraps. Slip these 4 sts back to LH needle. Pass the last 2 slipped sts over the first 2 slipped sts but do not drop off needle (sts will cross from left to right), then knit these 4 sts.

C4L (Cross 4 Left): Slip 4 with yarn in back, dropping the extra wraps. Slip these 4 sts back to LH needle. Pass the first 2 slipped sts over the last 2 slipped sts but do not drop off needle (sts will cross from right to left), then knit these 4 sts.
