INTRODUCTION

Cliff Walk

beauty shotby

Piquant

Cliff Walk is a bias, asymmetrical triangle shawl. It begins at the tip and grows outward. Two strands of yarn are held throughout creating a marled effect. Lines and stripes worked in one strand accent the piece.

This shawl was inspired by a desire to create a graphic, lightweight accessory to wear in the warmer months. It looks tricky but once you get the hang of it, the knitting is straightforward.

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]

Two strands of yarn are used held together for most of this pattern. Unless otherwise noted, you will be working holding two strands.

I used an Icelandic bind off (my favorite for garter stitch) because it has more give than a traditional bind off. Alternatively, a sewn bind off or Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy bind off could be used.
The Icelandic bind off is worked as follows: K1, *slip stitch from right needle to left needle purlwise. Insert right needle purlwise into first stitch on left needle, then knitwise into second stitch. Pull new stitch through both loops on needle. Drop both stitches from left needle. Repeat from * until all stitches are worked. Cut yarn and draw through last loop on needle.
There's a good video here.

On RS rows, stitches are slipped purlwise wyib; on WS rows, stitches are slipped purlwise wyif.
