Are you going to Rhinebeck?

Rhinebeck is almost here [or we are almost ready to go, to be more precise] and I wanna know...who's all going? [I love that phrase.]

People have also left a few suggestions about how best to handle the experience, but I could use more. What do you wear on your feet? Is it muddy out there? Does it get hot, even in October? Is there a place to put your stuff while you shop, or do you REALLY need to bring a big wheely grocery cart with you? What's the food like [fried, fried and fried? :-)]

Tell me! Steph and Emma and I are getting ready and we need all the prep we can get!

Comments:
I'm green with envy. Greengreengreen. Perhaps it is wisest to procure a couple Cabana Boys to help lug your fab finds for you. Just can't imagine you hijacking a grocery cart for the occasion, well, maybe I can.

Enjoy yourselves

kermit,
one of these ( http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/601-3928864-5260949?asin=B0000C0XOD&AFID=Froogle&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001 ) is what i meant (and that's still way bulkier than i wanna carry around with me all day)

Well, I'll be there. I can't answer all of your questions, since this is my first time, but I can tell you that (1) it will probably be muddy, since it's been raining here for about a week now, and there are torrential rains this morning; (2) it's supposed to be about 60-65 degress F. So, not exactly hot, but not really sweater weather either. Hope to see you there!

I'm going! :) Having grown up in the area I can tell you pretty much anything goes weather wise this time of year. The forecast so far is for rain but I'm hoping that changes. I believe the walkways are paved if memory of the fairgrounds serves, so it shouldn't be too muddy. I wouldn't wear your best shoes though. As for the rest of your questions, I can't really answer because although I grew up around there as I said, I've never been to this festival! *hanging head in shame* Hope you have a great time! :)

Well, last year it was quite chilly and people were wearing jackets over their sweaters in the morning and then sweaters in the afternoon, but this year is shaping up to be a bit warmer. It will be muddy. It's a big fairground and while most of it is paved and/or covered, if you want to check out the sheep/goats/various other animals available for consumption, you'll have to walk in mud at some point. It might rain all weekend. Bring sweaters (maybe a light one and a heavier one), a poncho, and some shoes you don't care about so much. Hope that helps! Norma and I are having a party in our room Friday night, you should come!

The weather was a little chilly last year but it looks like rain this year which will not be fun.

Wear comfortable shoes that you don't mind walking through dirt in. There really isn't a place to drop your purchases, bring a big tote bag. And yeah the food is typical fair ground type stuff.

Cara over a January One (http://www.januaryone.com/) has a list of a bunch of bloggers who are going to meet up if you want an idea of who will be there. I'm sure there are hundreds more...

Betcha there will be mud, although the major pathways are paved. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. I think that you can leave and return to the fairgrounds during the day, because the only place to store stuff is your car. Make a mid day trip to drop off the morning's stash enhancement.

This is my first time going, but with the rain, I have a feeling it will be chilly and muddy!

Jenn gives some pretty sound advice there. I'm going as you know, and we need to work out a meeting place since you're staying at a different place.

Yeah, what they all said, re: shoes and weather and mud and clothing. But to answer your food question -- yup, there's lotsa fried. Can't wait to meetcha!

the spiders (http://www.spidersknit.org) are going this year! it's been raining a lot here so i'm planning on wearing my rain/mud boots and bringing along a pair of sneakers for later. i've heard that the food is all fried so most of us are packing lunches for the day.

hope to see you there!

I'll be there too! Definitely bring a tote bag of some sort, but you'll be able to head back to your car at some point to drop stuff off, too.
Food...hmm. Lots of fried. But I think I remember some other stuff too...coffee and treats for sure. ;)

I say comfy shoes or sneakers, the rain doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. There's a lot of fried food...my mom will be packing her own lunch. As for lugging stuff, I am bringing a knapsack and if that gets filled, will make a trip to the car and unload. See you on Sat! :)

15 years. Congratulations! I want to go to Rhinebeck badly, but I must pass.

I wish I could go. I live near Syracuse, but I can't swing the trip this year. They are calling for lake effect rain showers here this weekend. That just means a very cold rain. I'd bring something warm. Lake effect rain is chilling to the bone. Even that far from the lake.

I'm going but this is my first year so I've got no advice. I plan on wearing shoes that can get dirty and containing purchases in a backpack. Hope to see you guys there!

I'm in NJ and it's been very wet, so I would wear shoes that are both comfy and won't get waterlogged. Also, if it's anything like it's been, it will be sweater weather (with a layer underneath) all day. We have not seen sun for almost a week.

CUSHIONY shoes. Seriously. T'heck with fashion. Running shoes are good. The walkways are definitely paved but the parking area is not. There's lots of hay in the animal barns.

Backpack. Small or large, your call. Definitely less tiring to carry than a shoulder bag or tote. Mid-day lunch/yarn dropoff at car is key.

Food is relatively good, considering, but in the grand scheme of things, I'd probably go into town for a nice big posh lunch!

I've never gone to the S&W (my first year!) but we go to the fair there every year and the walkways are paved but the vendor tents are not - the buildings are but if there are tents next to the walkways they may get a bit muddy. I am going with my friends Abi (http://Spiderwomanknits.blogspirit.com) and Cathy (http://BohemianBluestocking.blogspirit.com) - we hope to see you there!

I'm going! Some ladies from my knitting group and I reserved a hotel room since July, and we've been so geek-excited I'm sure my husband will be glad when it's over. :)

Last year was my first year. The food is fried but tasty. Bring antacids. :) There were a lot of baby bunnies last year. Bring camera. :) There were also a lot of awesome handmade sweaters on display, as it was chilly. We dressed in layers. Most everything is covered over, so rain isn't a HUGE deal. The people who suggest a backpack and comfy older shoes are smart. I'm planning on bringing a backpack and a couple extra canvas totes for the car. A mid-morning drop-off is a Good Thing; I ate most of my packed lunch then and went back for a fried treat. I'm tempted to bring sheep treats, but I'm not sure if that would be appreciated or even what sheep like to eat. (Carrots?)

Will there be some kind of Knitty meet-up? If not, have fun and see you there. (Oh, and get to the Brooks Farm booth as early as possible. It gets REALLY crowded.)

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, (just chalk it up to the fact that I'm a knitting newbie), where is Rhinebeck? I figured it's a fiber festival of some sort, and I've never been, but it sounds like a blast. Wish I could go!
