eta: would someone please call the TIVO 800 number from the US for me [and the other Canadians who are now drooling along with me]? I want to know if we would receive the rebate they're offering if we have a US address to mail it to. I can't see why they would exclude us from this. It's $150 off, for heaven's sake. We need it! :-) If you could call and leave a note with what you learned in the comments, all of us would be most grateful. (877-289-8486)

You will NOT regret it. If I had to get rid of all my appliances but one, I think my Tivo would win out over everything else. Even if I had the Tivo box and no TV, I'd just be happy knowing my favorite shows were all being reliably recorded. You'll love it!

You are going to love it! DVR is the best gadget I've ever bought (ok, after my ball winder). Pausing live TV is just brilliant.

It's our most used appliance in the house. In fact, we have two. Hubby had to get the newer model, so we moved the older one into our room.

TiVo changed the way that we watch tv. I feel so badly that you folk in Canada have been unable to enjoy it so far!

AMY. Listen to me. This is serious stuff. TiVo has got to be the coolest thing we have EVER had in the house. I'm not a big TV watcher, but when there's something I really want to see, I'm never organized enough to sit down when the show is actually on. The TiVo interface is so elegant, effortless, and SMART that it really does make that dream come true: the one show you actually want to watch is on at the exact moment you remember you wanted to see it.

Example: We're going to Mexico in two weeks. I put the keyword Mayan into TiVo, and it caught two fab documentaries within two days. "George Clooney" is another excellent keyword search, fyi.

Hullo!
Just called Tivo. The lovely lady on the other end of the line said that as long as you get the Tivo box shipped to a US address you can get the rebate!
