how NOT to finish a lace shawl

1. bring 99.9% complete seasilk lacewings shawl to LK snb.
2. drink nothing but jasmine and honey-laced green tea [iced].
3. giggle a lot.
4. knit to the end of the shawl and then start to bind off.
5. giggle and lose focus.
6. reach to tug the strand i'm binding off with only to realize it's come off the needle and i'm now undoing my bind off...and my lifeline-less lace...like a zipper
7. scream.
8. frantically grab all the stitches i can find on the needle in any order, just to get them.
9. pout.
10. go home, turn on rockstar: supernova on the tivo and commence the thing that must be done if i have any hope of sleeping [rip back 2 rows, plip the last row, stitch by stitch, until everything's safely back on the needles]
11. for good measure, knit one row to be sure it still looks like lace

binding off for real will commence this afternoon. this cautionary tale is brought to you by the "save the binding off of lace for when you're alone and can concentrate" society of upper canada.

p.s. just ripped back what i knit last night. things are not progressing to plan. hrm.

Comments:
If you knew what I did on a knitting machine, no less completely sober: I knit two fronts the wrong size, then knit them again the wrong gauge...several times. Then, I knit the sleeve the wrong gauge (keep forgetting to dial up when the border is done.)
Maybe some things are not meant to be.....

Ow ow ow! Fingers crossed that it all works out ok. see you next month!

i hate when that happens. i can never knit in public without making massive mistakes.

HAA HAA HAA

that will teach ya for giggling a me when I an't there.

knitting humble pie what flavour?- cast off shawl twice-MMMMM

HAA HAAAA HAAAAA

I so bitch

Thanks for the tip on the lacewings shawl. I just ordered the pattern from LK and it's in the mail to me. Lesson learned: don't drink iced green tea while working on the pattern. Solution: drink something with alcohol instead. Good luck!

This is precisely the reason I only bring straight stockinette to LK. You were a brave woman!

Good recovery (mostly, so far). Sometimes I wish I had a group of knitty-nuts to go knitty nuts with.

Eeeeek! At least you've somewhat recovered it. ...and in a moment of self-interest, I feel better that others are struggling with the darn, gorgeous (and darn gorgeous) thing too!

Concentrate really hard when binding off...I wish you luck, dear Amy. I went home last night and did the same. Happy to say it is starting to look like wings! Wippeeee!!! Thank you for the fabulous tips...stitch markers and circulars!!! I love my new addis!! I owe it to you. I will not be able to join the group on Friday...have fun!

dear amy ... i know this has nothing to do with the post of today ... but i have sent you 3 e-mails (july 21, july 30 and now again today ... ok ... just a moment ago ... but ... ) via big girls knits and still have no answer from you ... bad bad bad for posting here and saying why ... but i haven't figured another way to reach you ... is it possible to expect a reply ... thanks bunches!
