amy's Tivo watch

finally getting Tivo in our Canadian house [you may remember the significant rejoicing] means i can load up my season pass with all the new series i want to test drive, instead of missing key first episodes and then having to scramble to catch up later.

having a blog means i get to sound off about them here. unlike other more seasoned TV bloggers, there will be no in-depth coverage. instead, i thought i'd tell you which were on the season pass and how long they get to stay. it's a whim. humor me.

to categorize my tv tastes, here are my key favorites from previous season[s]:
- Lost [anything JJ Abrams does I love without question]
- Grey's Anatomy [please.]
- House [deeeep love.]
- America's Next Top Model [shush, you]
- Project Runway [almost cerebral compared to ANTM, yet so enjoyable in a very grade-10 way]

first show's season pass to get killed from Tivo last spring:
- Desperate Housewives [started out kitschy, but became unbearably painful to watch mid-season. buh-bye.]

This season's additions:
Men in Trees [clearly a Northern Exposure clone, but since i adored NX, this isn't a bad thing]
Jericho [Lost ripoff? could be.]
Brothers & Sisters [i expect this to be the first casualty of the season -- looks quite overwrought. do i need this much stress from someone else's family? but it's nice to see calista not so bony. i'll give it a shot.]
Ugly Betty [too silly?]
Six Degrees [more JJ Abrams!]
Standoff [just keep Burger away from the postits]
The Nine [i can't resist a good teaser line]

Okay. I had Shark on there, but bailed before recording an episode.

Have seen two shows so far. Summary:
Men in trees: absolutely an NX clone, mixed up and 10 years later, and very very watchable. despite my concerns about Anne Heche being cast as the vixen a whole town of men wants [have we forgotten the post-DeGeneres thing?], she really is a lovely leading lady. two episodes watched. deeply fond. season pass continues.

Six degrees: not as engaging as i expected, and definitely not another Lost or Alias. Still, the characters are likeable enough and except for the downward spiral Damian storyline [i hate those], i'm looking forward to what happens next to them. also, Campbell Scott? So so good. one episode watched. intrigued. season pass continues.

also...when did i become ABC's target demographic? interesting.

Comments:
Please keep in mind when you watch said "Men in Trees" the thing that every Alaskan girl knows: "The odds are good, but the goods are odd!"

And everything you see there is filmed in your own country! (At least they tried to go a little north huh? :0) )

Totally agree with most of your key faves (not a reality fan, but have no disrespect to those who are, so we differ there), and last season's DH. Still giving it a shot this year, but it's on a short leash.

So far, we are thoroughly enjoying "Standoff", and it's not just because Ron Livingston looks just like my hubby.

If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend Veronica Mars. Love, love, LOVE this show.

I'm a Knitty.com fan but have never posted here. I heard a review of the new season of Desperate Housewives today, which said it had regained the greatness of the first season. On the other hand. B&S sounds like a disaster except for Rachel Griffiths, who is supposed to be divine. Big thumbs down for Calista. I'm looking forward to "The Nine."

Yes yes yes! May I suggest My name is Earl and The Office? Oh, and The Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars?

JJ Abrams is also the man who gave us Felicity, which is what 6 degrees seems more like to me then Alias or Lost. I haven't checked it out yet, (I thought it started next week!) but it would be nice to see him do something like that again! I love me some JJ shows!

About Men in Trees? Exactly what you said. I kind of hate that I love it, but I love it anyway. Have you noticed that it's actually the same town (which I understand is in fact located in Oregon)?

i love men in trees. it reminds me of northern exposure. gee, i wonder why. the only one i wasn't too into was the one with burger. a bit lame-o so far.

Ha! You are the only other person I've seen who also (admits to) likes ANTM! It's been a LONG time since I was a slave to a time slot (I'm thinking 90210 in its first three seasons), but I never miss the Top Models! I love those twins this season, but haven't picked a clear favorite. Though Anchal is so in the running. She's stunning.

PS: I was showing my boyfriend the latest issue Knitty, and he noticed "the bunnies" in the sidebar. He was so thrilled about your rabbits! He never thought he would like rabbits until we got Mrs. Cooper.

Um, I'm so Tivoing ANTM too. I'm glad I'm not the only one... :)

You really should give Desparate Housewives another chance. This season seems to be getting off to a better start.

I loved Northern Exposure, too. I remember going into work on Tuesdays, and the lunchtime conversation was Monday night's episode.

Now I get the DVDs from Netflix. It's so fun to watch again!
