Catching up on podcasts, or why I want Anthony Bourdain to make me his b*tch

No playing for me this weekend. It's all Knitty, all the time. Thankfully, I have about a summer's worth of podcasts to catch up on [I can't listen to words when I write, but they're amazing when I'm coding pages or doing photoshop work].

Today's treat: Anthony Bourdain, interviewed by the amazing Evan Kleiman [the bella Italian chef that took us to Tuscany in April] on her NPR show, Good Food. In this case, Anthony does most of the talking. I could listen to him forever. [Click on Good Food and you can hear the podcast. Anthony is the first interview, after the organic market report.]

I don't know if you've seen any of his TV stuff, but he comes across as a likeable ass. Coarse, harsh, rude and brilliant. The total anti-tourist. In this interview, he drops the excess attitude and shows his deep respect for the people he spends time and shares meals with. He's intelligent, sensitive, realistic and I absolutely love him.

If he didn't smoke, he'd be perfect.

p.s. Evan, I miss you.

Comments:
I've met him. I work at the same place as his mom, and a friend and I ran into the two of them once at a Vietnamese restaurant in Manhattan (Nha Trang Centre, near City Hall — very tasty and *cheap*!). He's pretty cool. Funny and gracious. And he has no excess attitude at all in person.

I sometimes find myself looking for mindless work (coding, etc.) just so I can listen to podcasts.

Podcasts (knitting related or not)are perfect accompaniment to knitting!

He's my secret crush. I love the crass sarcastic behavior on him because you can tell he's really a good guy.

I enjoy Anthony Bourdain very much. Thx for posting the link to Good Food...listening to it right now.

Oooh thank you for the link! I am in LOVE with him. If you haven't seen the episode of No Reservations from Beirut, it is very interesting. They were there when the bombing started, and the episode ran a couple weeks ago on the Travel channel here in the US. I'm not sure if it airs somewhere in Canada. :(

I love Anthony Bourdain! He and my old boss Barry are probably the only people who could ever convince me to go back to working as a chef...

Have you seen his new show No Reserwations?! LOVE IT!

He was in my town speaking at the local book store and he did a reading. It was just a couple of weeks after Beirut and everyone had questions about the trip. He was very moving in his descriptions of his days there. His shows usually make me laugh, but this last one made me think.

Isn't Anthony great? No Reservations is one of the few shows on TV, we actually stop other things to watch. The Beirut episode as others have said, was incredible.

Thanks for the Good Food link.

Anthony Bourdain is great! I just saw his show on Beirut on the travel channel, and it was amazing. I'm looking forward to meeting you on Friday night at The Point in NYC.

He's one of the few people I would seriously rely upon to teach the art of making a sauce. Love him.

But I can't say "Anthony Bor-Dane...." I just can't. I've had the English kicked out of me ;-)
