she called me bono

so, see, Tracey Ullman and Mel Clark were at the Textile Museum tonight to sign their new book. as many before have done, they spoke for a while about knitting and their book. and i propped my tiny canon on my knee and took y'all a video so you could enjoy it too. when this clip starts, she's just been talking about how knitting and yarn was for her when she was much younger...and then she continues:

what you don't see is when i stuck my nose in it. they were talking about sweater wizard software, with significant audience participation, and somehow i managed to mention that i do knitty [cough, cough] and that's when it happened. tracey ullman called me the Bono of knitting. it doesn't need to be true. it just means that Tracey Ullman reads Knitty.

i leaned my head back and said in response, "i can die now."

p.s. i can take no credit for the pink radiator, except that i didn't paint over it when we bought the house. it does seem rather fitting now, doesn't it?

Comments:
Hee hee, the Bono of knitting.

In the nammmmme of yarn! Once more in the name of yarrrrrn!!!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

You just hold your head up high-KNitty is something to be very proud of. For one thing, it enabled so many of us to believe in our own abilities to create. So of COURSE, she reads Knitty!

If you're the Bono of knitting, does that make Jillian the "The Edge" of knitting? More importantly, should we start referring to her as "The Jillian"?

Somehow, Denny seems to be the one crying our for her own definite article...

Can I be the Jerry Hall of Knitting

Just , you know, hang out and get free stuff.

I'll marry Mr. Noro, and I'll share the iro.

Blaaaah.

It ended ! I want more ! I really wanted to hear your Bono moment.

You are totally the Bono of knitting. And now I'm going to spend the rest of the day determining who else could be the ________ of knitting. I'm going to tell Leslie that it's Tracy Ullman's fault that I don't have my article in on time.

Of course you're a rock star! Hmmm...maybe you should start wearing knitted sunglasses...

that is so cool!
this is a definitive moment...a very special moment...how awesome is this?!
you are Bono and Denny is Jerry Hall, Jillian is The Edge, and...Harlot is Mick Jagger?
:o)

does that mean that ann & kay are the lennon/maccartney of knitting?

does this mean that i'm the geoff berner of knitting? hee hee.

No, I think the Harlot should be the Madonna - all that sexy re-invention stuff. Also because she can't be Mick Jagger if Denny is Jerry Hall. Too weird.
Now pleeease...can I be a backup singer in this band?

Uh, Ann and Kay are the Petula Clark and Lynn Redgrave of knitting, if that.

ROCK ON, Amy! Spreading world peace while looking extremely cool at all times . . .

That was great. I do so love Tracey Ullman.

Amy, I love the idea of you traipsing all over the globe and nagging world leaders to pay more attention to knit. Just please don't start wearing those sunglasses, for the love of yarn.
