it's not a toooomah.

So, you see, I knit a LOT on the weekend. It's a knitting retreat. You're SUPPOSED to knit a lot. It was fun!

But I woke up Sunday morning with a completely numb right arm from fingertip to elbow. Numb like rubbah. Really, really creepy and I kind of panicked. Stopped knitting for 3 days. Moaned and worried a lot. The numbness went away, but it was still sore.

Saw the specialist yesterday. It's tennis elbow, probably from hauling luggage on all these trips I've been taking (and packing too heavily). I'm such a goof.

But I did bring my knitting so she could check my technique in case it was part of what hurt me, and am relieved to report that it is in no way involved, that it's not making it worse (so I can continue to knit my swatches for teee-veeee*). And that my doctor said I have an exceptionally wrist-friendly knitting position.

I was quite proud of that.

Ice, stretching, muscle-strengthening exercises, one of them epicondylitis bandages and I should be back to meself in a while. Oh, Jeeves? Could you haul my bags for me?

*Sorry, Steph.

Comments:
Sadly, any dreams of playing proffesional tennis are all shot to hell... but thank god it's not the knitting!

I'm a massage practitioner in Washington State, and while I would love to give you a massage to help relieve you of any pain...

Stay in your home area and find a Massage Practitioner/Therapist. Massage works wonders in conjunction with the ice, stretching and exercises. Also, before and after knitting... do the exercises as a preventative measure.

We dont need any future knitting interruptions. :o)

Get better!

WHEW! That sounds dangerous.

As a person who really likes luggage, I advise something wheeled with a grip bar on the bottom. Luggage itself can be really heavy, too, so get something light. Barring that, buy one good general purpose pair of shoes and don't pack more shoes. Shoes suck up lots of room and are heavy. A travel sized hair dryer is also a good investment. Travel sized toiletries are also useful weight savers.

Happy Travels! Oh, attach any shoulder bags to the rolling luggage (other than your passport and credit cards. Keep those on your person). That should help take some stress off the sherpa-ing.

I've got the exact same elbow/joint situation (and I do a lot of luggage hauling). When we connect to blend (bless that furry little day and may it please hurry up) we can co-woe. Note: don't carry grocery bags or anything that will tug down on your arms. Knapsacks and helper sherpas from here on in. Not even a litre of milk. L:

That's a relief to hear.

Your title is one of my favorite things to say.

My friend's son is in marching band and plays the baritone horn. When he walked out after rehearsal one day, somebody said "Wow, look at that big thing! What is it, a tuba?"

Not missing a beat he said (a la Ahnold) "It's not a tuuuuba."

I would love to haul your bags. Even though you called me a freak. ;)

I would definitely imagine that is a relief.

I have never been able to find a hobby/lifestyle that doesn't in some way hurt my wrist. Doesn't stop me tho

similar pain for me last year. Actually wept when I thought knitting was the cause. But alas it was not the problem. I found the greatest and fastest relief not with my chiropractor (although that helped) but YOGA. not so much the downward dog torture but the stretching of arms and shoulders... check it out
