who needs Magnolia?

Every once in a while, usually in December, a new sign pops up in a storefront in my neighborhood saying "coming soon", and we start to get excited because we can't wait to see what they'll be selling.

It's been a while since we saw the sign for Life is Sweet, but the moment we did, I [in particular] have been like a kid, bouncing up and down for the day they'd open.

They opened last Wednesday, and this morning, hub went over this morning and brought back little iced tastes of heaven:

Yes, this is a blatant photostyling imitation of Jane Brocket's beautiful and continually inspiring blog. Jane's much better at this. But I had to try.

So for breakfast today, I had one of the choccy ones [on the right]. Deep, rich chocolate flavor, light, fluffy cake, filled with a tiny hint of whipped cream in the very center. I was bouncing off the ceiling for at least 20 minutes with the sugar rush. This little gem's cupcakes are good through and through -- not just the icing. Oh, heaven.

Hub had one of the lemon ones and loved it. I won't tell you how many he bought for just the two of us, but it's obscene.

Life is Sweet Cupcake House: 2328 Queen Street East at Kingswood.

Comments:
Yummmmmm. They look delicious.

Mmmmm, lemon cupcakes. I'm drooling.

I don't even like cupcakes (I know; freak), but those make me want to.

You know cupcakes are the true breakfast of champions. Jane's pictures always make me drool, then I totally crave jelly beans. Now I'm wanting cupcakes!

YUM!!!

My mouth is watering. We have Cupcake Royale in Seattle -- the cupcakes are tasty, but not anywhere close to as beautiful as these. Yum!

Bless his heart. Y'know, the next time you come to NYC, I need to tell you about a few other cupcake spots that I like better than Magnolia. Or maybe i'll just bring you a few of my faves?

Cupcakes for breakfast. Yum.

And of course you know ('cause you did), any man that brings you cupcakes for breakfast is a keeper.

I'm jealous. I am SO coming to Toronto one of these years. Don't eat all the cupcakes before I get there.

OMG, Cupcakes!!

YOU are so Lucky!
and i am rather jealous.
mmm. cupcakes. How lovely and
magical and ...
ooh, i really am jealous.

dangerous, though, if the Cupcakes are too close to your home.

I had cheesecake for breakfast, and now after a long day at the yarn store I will eat ruby red grapefruit, mmmmm
I love food. Have a cupcake for me sweetpea.

they're close, but so is the best real-Italian gelato place, and we manage to abstain most days.

not today, though. i believe i've had one at each meal today. is that a balanced diet?

Have to love
a balanced Diet,
especially for a Sunday. It would be Lopsided and Sad if you did not have Cup cakes at different points throughout;
otherwise you could wind up in a sad funk.-

i am still jealous.
have thought about the cupcakes all evening.

mmmmm.... I *need* a cupcake now. NEED.

;)

Ciao for Now (in the East Village)

actually has way better cupcakes than Magnolia.

Aaaaaaand now I am craving cupcakes. :)

Those look fab. I think that's my favorite thing about good cupcakes - they are usually both pretty AND yummy!

Oh man, those cupcakes are killing me. I saw your pictures last night and declared to my husband that I NEEDED a cupcake. Then we went to a Superbowl party and one of my friends brought some awesome cupcakes, so all was well.

I like that when one NEEDS a cupcake, a cupcake will come.

(shut up Jenn I can hear your thoughts)
