2008 Calendar Contest...let the onslaught begin!

We've done it twice already and it's such a tradition that we couldn't think of stopping now! If you've knit something from the pages of Knitty and can get hold of a good-quality digital camera, you could win great stuff! Full details are on the Calendar Contest page, right here:

We always love seeing your photos, and so do the rest of our readers. Don't be shy...think carefully, point and shoot, and then send the results to us!

The contest rules have the following:
The winning entrants must be able to submit the winning photo[s] for publication in high-resolution [at least 3 megapixels/300dpi] format. The photograph[s] must be 11" wide x 8.5" tall.

Could this be clarified? If I understand correctly, 8.5"x11" at 300 dpi is actually more than 8 megapixels.

Also the contest rules say e-mail your photograph at a resolution of 72dpi.

Is the low-res image supposed to be the same as the high-res image downsampled to 72dpi?

Thank you!

I've found charts that say the same thing as you mention, and honestly, I can't explain it. All I know is that a camera lower than 3mp will not provide enough resolution for us to use it for print. Personally, I think it's all meant to confuse the average consumer. But if your camera is at least 4mp and you shoot at full resolution, your image will be suitable for print.

And yes, please downsample the same image when sending it in as an entry.

How fun!!

I really like that.
