post-issue randomness

Ah, the relief of another issue gone live without accidental amputation [it could happen, you know. one must be careful].

Here are the latest things on my mind:

1. When will I hear a yes or no from the SOAR people? I am on the edge of my seat with the waiting! Certainly no one would argue that I need me some serious spinning lessons. Today, maybe? Perhaps I'll hear today?
---
2. Chiao Goo makes one hell of a small-gauge crochet hook. For some reason, above a size E [like I even know what that is yet], they change from this loveliness...

to a solid bamboo crochet hook that looks just about like every other. A plain ole bamboo round stick with the hook on the end. Why? I think they did the smaller ones in metal because they couldn't do them in solid bamboo, and as a result, have come up with something magical. The metal/bamboo hook is light, comfortable to hold and ridiculously affordable (suggested retail is below $4 a hook!). If they came in a full range of sizes, I'd buy a whole set. You may quote me on this.

So people...do you crochet? Do you agree with me that the bamboo/metal is an amazing thing? Write the company! I told them this on the floor at TNNA, but if a lot of you write them, they might actually add larger sizes to their metal/bamboo line. Here, this is their parent company's web page -- with an e-mail addy right there for you to use! Their sales manager's name is Juliana -- write and tell her what you think!

3. My feet. Longtime readers know I've got crappy feet and Birkenstocks have been my salvation. A few good friends have been raving about the superiority of Danskos, so I finally sucked it up and bought a pair. In PINK leather.

Seriously. It's fuschia leather.

The arch is noticeably higher than in Birkenstocks, but not uncomfortably so. I find the height of these shoes amusing [I usually wear flat things] and have worn the shoes twice with socks with absolutely no discomfort. Early verdict: love.

For those who need similar footy gratification, see ShoeDawg.com.

4. No one prodded about the Americo, but don't tell me you didn't want a little yarn pr0n with your Tuesday coffee.

Cotton wrapped in silk in charcoal and ice green-blue. 1 each. Yum. Don't ask what they're for yet. I don't know. That's half the fun.

I too love the Dansko's, I wear them for work. But I have noticed that they are heavier then other shoes and between the additional weight (and probably my additional weight!) and my poor ergonomics at the desk I've messed up my knee this week. Good Luck with yours, love the fuschia!

Fuchsia Danskos! Woot! I wish I had that sort of fashion courage - I only have (and love) plain black ones.

In other news, I regret to inform you that when I was at the Maine Fiber Frolic these weekend, my Knitty button fell off my knitting bag. THE Knitty button you gave me at Rhinebeck last year. It is quite gone. I was quite dismayed. I may have bought 10 pounds of Romney top and another Golding spindle and some indigo-dyed cotton roving and just maybe some Spunky merino/tencel to assuage my grief. Quite possibly some other stuff, too, although I will point out I did not acquire any fleeces, wheels, or drum carders. And I came home with less than I went with, having dropped off four fleeces to be processed.

But, nonetheless, my heart is broken. Simply know that, even without that overt token of your affection, I am, and shall always be, yours.

[Ignore my excessiveness; I'm still high on fiber fumes.]

I love love love my Danskos. Just beware the feared Dansko ankle roll. That hurts.

I only wear three shoe brands now: Dansko, Merrill, and Keen. Check them out: Your feet and back will thank you!

PS - I'm an acupuncturist married to a doc. We both specialize in orthopedic stuff.

Love Danskos. Have done the feared ankle roll. In front of Target.

Yay Dansko! They are my favorite shoe aside from Birkenstocks. I lurve them.

I too love the Danskos. I have really really wide feet, and they're among the few shoes that fit comfortably with hand-knit socks. In fact, I have two pairs, one like yours and one pair of mary-janes.

Isn't it fun wearing tall shoes?

Hi Amy-

Love the Danskos! I also wanted to thank you for the yarn prOn. DO you think they will ever start selling items online?

Magda

Oh I've gotta get a pair of those Danskos (look a bit like Swedish clogs - which I wore as a kid). Congrats on another great issue.

Hi Amy,

I've got a set of ChiaoGoo bamboo crochet hooks (sizes G-K, I think) and I love them. It's nice to have an alternative to metal or *cringe* plastic.
Plus, as an added bonus, each hook has some sort of inspirational word written on them (like Faith, Love, Wisdom, etc..)

Kristen

P.S. As always, love the yarn pr0n.

Your opinion on the Danskos won't change. They get better as you wear them. :)

The taunting of the Americo isn't right, but yet, I can never take my eyes away from all of that cotton/silk goodness. Maybe you should start an Americo Flick group, so that everytime someone has a hankering, it can be fixed. :D

How 'bout some notecard pr0n to go with the yarn?

Bunny love right here in the little odd forest:

Be careful with the Danskos--I fell off of mine many, many times when I first started wearing them! It wears off, eventually, and I wear them almost every day.

Congrats on the Summer issue--I'm going to make those Leo washclothes for my nieces & nephew for the holidays!

Hi Amy, over the years I have gone through about 12 pairs of Danskos both clogs and closed backs. I think they are fabulous. I am a little envious, may I ask where you got the fuschia Danskos. The closest I got to a pair was in the states a few months back and they didnt have my size. Another great shoe to try are Mephisto allrounders. I have been living in them for the past month.

Thanks,
Sarah

Amy,

Have you tried Aerosoles? I love 'em! I like a little more style with my comfortable footwear ... but that's me! Sorry to say, I'll be out of town Aug. 26 when you visit Loop and won't be back in time to get there.

And unlike some companies--the Chia Goo folks really listen, so I know it will help to tell them we want bigger metal hooks.

Hi Amy, I'm the one who was breathing over your shoulder while you were learning to crochet from Amy O'H at TNNA, until I realized that it doesn't help the crochet zen. Anyway THANKS for the link to make it easy to encourage the Chiao goo folks to make a complete set of bamboo with metal. I'm totally with you on that. Plain bamboo hooks leave me cold.
And about the shoes: I was a diehard Birkenstocks person for decades until I wore the magical Z-Coils and I've never looked back. Even low grade unresponsive aches I had for years in hip sockets, lower back, etc., just left and have not returned. I thought I had to put up with them as part of a monthly cycle or something. They absorb 100% of the impact--they're like anti-gravity shoes. www.zcoils.com (I'm not affiliated with them.)

I love Danskos!! My sister got this felted yarn pair, which I had seen online and skipped right over. They are soooo cute in person - way better than online. She wears them all the time because they match everything. They are definitely worth checking out:

And of course, these new ones are great too!

Hope you liked your bamboo!
Thanks

I, too, love my Danskos. In adition to black and brown, I have teal ones and some brand new patent leather red ones that I found on sale recently. Then I had to go buy some red sock yarn to match.

I am with you on the Dansko clogs. I wore them for a week walking the streets of NYC with no discomfort. I am in awe of the pink leather.....
