What happens when Emma Jane gets a little. Well. You'll see.

When I visited Emma Jane earlier this month, one of our to-dos was to shoot the beauty shot for my most recent design, Everlasting Bagstopper. [Yup, it's in the Knitty surprise that just went live!]

We'd decided it wasn't a photoshooty day after all, until I found myself driving us up the side of Owen Sound [the actual body of water that gives the town its name] and I found this spot. And then Emma did her magic. I particularly like the last two: action shots. Woo!

For those who wonder, I didn't initially design this bag to be in the magazine. I searched all over the interweb to find a bag like this because I needed one, but I couldn't find anything that collapsed into it's own pouch [except the nice crocheted bag on Crochet Me]. So I took the Montego Bay stitch pattern [I *was* going to call this pattern Montego Bag :-)] and started knitting. By the time I got past the base of the bag, I realized it was [IMO] good enough to share. I hope you like it.

The pictures are cute. I will have to check out the pattern on Knitty.

Help! I'm at the beach and I have completed the body of the scarf that you had in the new KNITS. I've misplaced my pattern. Could you tell me how long to make the fringe? I know there are 200 pieces. Of course, bothering you will insure that the pattern turns up on its own! I am using Country Silk from Fiddlesticks in shades of indigo. I love this pattern. I want to buy beads here at the beach and incorporate them in to the fringe. Thanks for you help.

I've been looking for a GOOD, reusable (not crocheted) bag. This appears to fit the bill! THANKS!

ROTFL! Good times, good times. And I'm looking forward to making the bag too. :)

PS: Maria, that's the bag trying to be a sleeveless top JUST FOR YOU! :)

Run Emma-Jane, Run!

I love this Amy...I've been wanting to make a drawstring type bag for groceries and you've inspired me to get on with it...I do take my own canvas bags when shopping but always seem to need one more!

Amy, thank you for helping all us knitters to 'be green'!! I am heading to my LYS to get 2 skeins of Allhemp 6 today to cast on!

Amy, Where are you? Call Peggy at The Oregonian. Please.

LOVE it, actually.

Love this! I'm goign to start it asap - probably in mercerized cotton, since that's what's in my stash and I have no time to yarn shop right now!

*Rubs crystal ball* I see friends and family getting these bags for Christmas.

Haha, thanks Emma. I was wondering about sleeveless-toplessness of the bag!!

I love the bag pattern...I'm enjoying making the Montego Bay Scarf and I had an urge to do fishnet lace everything after starting. This pattern will help. :) I love the drawstring detail and the ribbon handles!

I recently printed out the crochet me pattern for that bag. I could not find what I was after knitwise and was too lazy to make it happen. Amy has saved my day. Thank you Amy. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Sometimes slacking is it's own reward.
And I am moving to Canada because it is prettier.

Love the bag and I love Knitty. Very inspiring. I have however a challenge for Knitty if you're willing to accept. Mission Impossible Style: how about an issue for plus-size/Rubenesque-like women? Some funky and classic styles that would not look like tents and remind others of beached whales. OR - how about showing (with photos) how to increase/change a pattern to fit a more generous size person?

Love it Amy! I'm casting on now in Louet Euorflax... did you use all 2 skeins of the allhemp? (The euroflax is 250 yd, wondering if I should snag another skein.)

Have you seen Oat Couture's Stow-Away Shopping Bag pattern (www.oatcouture.com/Accessories.html, AC306)? The bag folds up into a pouch at its base. A different idea from yours; both are cool.

How could you not pick one of those action shots for the Knitty piece?

Ok, this is totally off topic -- but I just wanted to say that I saw your show on Knitty Gritty yesterday, and thought it was just great. I really want to try some new fibers now.

Amy, your bio picture at the end of the pattern is so cute! I also love the bag. I've been looking for a pattern like this. Thanks!

It's like you read my mind. I was just looking for a bag just like this. Sweet!

Hi Amy,

This is a little random, but the first photo of Emma Jane that accompanies your Everlasting Bagstopper pattern looks JUST like me!

I just wrote about the uncanny resemblence on my blog:

Great Design Amy! I have a similar [store-bought] bag like this, but the feature I see that I really like is the base. Nice reinforcement...I had to fabric [stretch] line my store-bought to keep clerks from over-filling and expanding it beyond capacity. The liner also keeps the tiny stuff inside. Mega-kudos to your choice of hemp!!!! ~Christine.

I've already made my bag -- a short version because I only had one skein of yarn. I love it! I've ordered some hemp to make a couple more. Thanks!

Thank you for the pattern - and awesome timing! I am trying to be conscious about reuse, and when I inherited a cone of cotton yarn I decided to look for patterns for knitted mesh bags. I was going to set out on that search right after reading blogs this morning - thanks for the one-stop shopping!

Those pics (and the bag!) just ROCK :) Perfect.

I made your pattern, but I added knitted handles. If the weather cooperates, I'll take pictures! (must have piccys for ravelry)
