who asked for this cool weather?

*i did!* blame me. i love a happy 20c day. it's like heaven.

---

so, life is going well here in the land of no gallbladder, knock wood. my surgical stuff is mostly healed [externally], though my belly button still looks like someone fought a battle in there. [sorry. tmi.]

last night when going to sleep, i absent-mindedly flopped onto my tummy [my preferred sleeping position] and instantly was told by my internal organs that I AM NOT READY TO DO THAT YET. ow. except for stuff like that, not much hurts now. i'm really amazed at how quickly i've recovered. whoever discovered laparoscopic surgery, thank you!

[hey, a picture of the procedure i had done is on the wikipedia page for Laparoscopic surgery. click for big. wow.]

---

so, Massimo is fine and safe and bored out of his mind, not having been ridden since the day i went into emerg. i've [as is my habit] been obsessively googling Vespa accessories, like the proper boots and cool-weather gear to wear, while waiting to get strong enough to ride again.

[did you know Blundstones are not suitable to be used as scoot boots? because if, god forbid, you go down, the elastic gores at the sides provide zero protection. crap. i already own a pair and thought i was set.]

i have found SUPER CHEAP dr martens 8-hole boots in pure white for so cheap, it's almost offensive, and would take permanent markers to them and make them insanely fun. does anyone know if these would do? are they good at the non-slippy thing [because good traction underfoot is essential for me]. has anyone tried to fit orthotics into a pair of these? [i use the standard Birkenstock footbed as my orthotic.] advice welcome.

when it comes to cool-weather gear, this was one of the first things that caught my eye. a blankie that keeps out wet and cold, so you can be toasty as you scoot! i believe i'll have to get one, and soon.

and regarding my seat, which does look like tan suede from a distance, but is actually waterproof somethingorother, it's just a little too normal for me. so at the end of my west-coast adventures, i ordered a seat cover from crystal. you'll have to wait to see which fabric i picked.

oh, and i'm also working on getting fall Knitty® ready, too.

wait -- what's that thingy after "Knitty"? yes, it's a little registered trademark symbol. it's official. rock on.

Question:
What does having a registered trademark mean? Any changes for Knitty other than that little R?
and on similar notes:
1. i think the little R makes Knitty look Very Official. :o)
2. I can't wait to see your Massimo Get-Up (boots and seat cover).
3. I'm so glad that you are feeling so much better! and that picture of the laparascopic procedure on WIKI was really cool!
4. hope your bellybutton feels better...
5. FALL KNITTY?! can't wait!

Woo-hoo! Let's hear it for Official!

Thanks for the gallbladder updates, Amy - I had mine out on Friday, so if my recovery goes as smoothly as yours I'll be thrilled.

PS, I envy you your Vespa...

go go (R).

i still have a hate-love relationship with my gb. i should get rid of it one of these days..

Woohoo! Knitty's official!

A scooter skirt is brilliant. If I had a scooter, I'd have to have a skirt.

Being a motorcycle gal, I can say that Doc Martens are pretty good -- they were my first riding boot.

A couple of things to keep in mind -

They're not waterproof. Even if you don't plan to ride in the rain, the time will come when you might be surprised by the weather.

Also, I was told in the motorcycle safety class that shoes with laces aren't recommended because there's the outside possibility the laces might get caught in the chain. That might be a little alarmist, but there you have it.

Best of luck to you and Massimo!

Amy,

WHAT is up with your blog? The top Knitty banner is the only thing that's in the right place, and the rest of it is all shifted to the right, and it's grey! Almost unreadable! ????

Glad you're feeling better.

i TOTALLY ordered this weather - i'm so happy i've started working on Jane again....that's happy with the weather.

Oh the knitting! Oh the happy! Hope to see you on Wed.

Disregard previous - all is now well. Must have been one of those unexplained computer glitches ...

I just got back to internet coms from holiday. Sorry about your gallbaldder ordeal. Hope this solves it and you heal just enough to languish on pillows knitting, but not enough to get up and do any "work".

Docs are terrific- if you use a water-proofing agent, they should wear fine.

I have half a dozen pair of Docs, and they are very sturdy, as well as being non-slip.

Don't worry, Andrew had laproscopic surgery in January, and his belly button almost looks normal. Almost.

I've had success painting an old leather purse with Jacquard brand Lumiere (pearlescent effect), and Neopaque (flat color). I do hasten to add though, that it was a worn purse, so held the paint well. I've read that sometimes it peels off new-leather, unless you abraid the finish in some way. I just had to reply because I love wild, self-expressive shoes, especially doc martens! Have fun, and good luck!

Just heard about your blog (and surgery) at Cast-On, and wanted to wish you a continued easy recovery.

Autumn is my favorite season, and I am counting the days until the fall Knitty comes out!

Somehow I lost your blog from my reader so I just learned of your surgery and your lovely new toy.

Glad your recovery seems to be going well. Be patient with yourself on healing. My experience (with more extensive surgery) is that long after I thought I should be better, I would be reminded that I wasn't.

With regard to boots, not to discount Robin's point about lace-up's, but I believe I would have to be a contortionist to get laces caught in the chain of my traditional motorcycle. I can't even imagine how you would get your feet near the chain (which appears to be enclosed anyway) on your Vespa.

If those are the boots you want, I'd go for it.

okay, so did you get bruising...about 5 days after surgery? Matt had it out Tuesday, follow-up with doc Friday, but then Saturday belly button area is so purple and yet also the yellow of faded bruising. normal?

1. I love the weather too
2. Sorry your tummy hurts
3. Yay! Shopping!
4. Yay! Knitty!
5. Trademarked. Tres Chic!
6. Is this a new look for the blog? I like it!

What're those diamond things there in the banner, and is clicking them (they're non-functional) supposed to lead somewhere?

I wear Birkenstock orthotics in my Docs with no problem. I have fairly wide feet, and there is still plenty of room.

I have no idea about the suitability of Docs for Vespa-ing, though.

And remember when you ride your Vespa to wave and say, "Ciao!" (Sorry, love Izzard too much. I ciao'd a Vespa rider at a stoplight the other day and he started laughing so hard he almost fell over.)

I had a laproscopy about 13 years ago. I still have a small scar in my belly button, but not too noticeable!

Regarding Doc Martins: I don't know if you've ever worn them, but they run a little long (and they don't make 1/2 sizes). This could work to your advantage with the orthopedics. I just bought a pair myself and they're a little sloppy in the toe, but I plan on wearing them this winter with wooly socks, so they should be okay.

Good luck and I, too, envy your Vespa!
