still working, really

But you wanna see what I did on Saturday? My scooter club scheduled a ride to the Burlington Rib Fest. It was a much, MUCH longer ride than I've ever gone on before, but there were lots of other noobs going along too, plus they broke up the route into smaller chunks. Thanks to Dennis who took this pic and has no idea I've scoffed it for the blog.

It was a perfect day for scootering. Sunny and clear and not hot at all.

We drove the Lakeshore all the way to Appleby Line and then headed north, for the "twist and turn" part of the trip through the Escarpment. Yes, turns. Lots of tight ones. After the first bout of tight turns at 40-50kph, I realized I was going to have to take them slower if I was going to stay vertical. We ride in formation, so if one of us goes slow, the people behind them are stuck going slow too. Thankfully, they were kind to the noobs and didn't make us feel bad. And I stayed vertical. It was a beautiful ride, but I was a little too white knuckled to enjoy it as much as I could have.

Never mind. The rest was nice and straight and except for my unbelievably sore tush, easy as pie. [We were on our bikes pretty much from 11am until 9pm.] Still, I'm probably not going to sign up for another long ride for a while. Need to work up to that, I think.

My cute jacket? [Because I know you'll ask.] Lane Bryant denim. My own patches, bought with Jillian when we were in Austin. And the jacket? It R-E-E-K-S. I have two pairs of LB jeans and they stink as well. Like cheap factory stink. Even after two washings. Advice on destinking rather cute denim would be most welcome.

And now, head back down.

Oh, nice girl in the T&T parking lot tonight -- did you like the store?

Take a bag of charcoal (the plain kind, no lighter fluid impregnated!), empty it into the bottom of a plastic tub, stick the denim in, and cover it up. Let it sit for awhile. Pray to the smelly denim gods that the smell will go away.

Won't newspaper work the same as the charcoal only be less of a bitch to obtain? I dunno. I stick with the good ole "stick it outside in the sun and let the air get at it" approach and that generally works for me.

Hey Amy, when my denim wear smells a bit,(which sometimes happens with my front loader) I put vinegar in the wash. About 1/2 cup. I usually put it in my bleach dispenser if I'm using softner. HTH!

That ride sounded awesome! Hope next time you can enjoy it more!

Ooops! Make that white vinegar...um..wine or cider might give you a bit different odor than you want! ;)

You and that adorable scooter, it seems, were made for each other.

I'll second the motion on using white vinegar. I use it on cloth diapers and if it can get THAT smell out...:-)

Ha. I liked it very much, thanks. And my co-workers are enjoying the sesame seed cookies I brought in today to share.

I'll be back again. A nice break from the regular Loblaws trips.

SE.

I guess if you don't have a ride it's difficult to get to that T&T store. It is so close to my house, yet so difficult to get there. No public transit.

The 72 bus takes you right by there.

Cute picture, oh and for the smell good luck, I have some denim from LB that still smells slightly off after a year or more. Good news the smell fades some, but it's still there. I think it's something in their dye.

You are ADORABLE on your scooter. I mean simply adorable. Also, I'm am so coveting your green boots. I'm with you on "making them fit".

What an awesome package from the Cal girls!!!

Did you try Febreeze? It works on my car seats after bringing home sweaty teenage football players.

Pretty weird about the smell from LB denim. Does it smell in the store?

I didn't notice that my jeans smell odd. Or maybe my nose is off. But I did need to exchange for a smaller size like you said I would. Good thing I didn't let on that I could have been "pants'ed" about an hour after I put them on.

hi there. i can't use bleach, but i have used Baking soda in the wash - water. disolve the powder first before you add your soap & clothing to the water.

Hope this works.

how fun! I broke my wrist so I can't knit or ride my vespa. I am so jealous!

If these were new garments I would be taking them back to the retailer.
New Zealand is at the moment recalling garments made in China because of dangerous levels of formaldehyde in woollen and cotton clothes, with some tests showing levels up to 900 times the level that causes harm.
International research shows exposure to formaldehyde in concentrations of 20 parts per million (ppm) can cause symptoms including skin irritations, respiratory problems and cancer.

If your demin has a bit of stretch then I think the white vinegar will work. I recommend drying them in the dryer or somewhere they will dry quickly. I had smelly demin once when they didn't get dried quickly. I theorize it has something to do with the stretch but I'm no fabric expert.

the lighter colored LB denim jeans I have lost their stink after a couple of washings, but the dark denim? I have to wash those jeans separately or else the whole load stinks. It seems like the hot dryer intensified the smell, so I might try air drying them
