complete, utter disaster.

thankfully, almost nothing in knitting is irreparable.

this is the 2nd djevellue i've been trying to knit for a week now. i knit a perfectly lovely one on the first try last month, but for some reason, i'm repeatedly making a mess of this one. over and over. again.

here's the first one [same yarn]:

see? lovely. as intended. definitely recognizable as the same hat in the pattern.

here are the messes i've created:

i knit on this for 3 hours at knit night wednesday, in complete denial.
i now know what i did wrong and why it just didn't seem right. [right? how about sane?]

i will rip. again.

Dear Amy, It looks as if you have been a victim of Knitters Distractitis. This virus, quite common in the Winter, holiday months, can be caused by numerous factors. It is known to be contagious in social knitting groups and is exacerbated by stress or speed knitting. There is no known cure, although it usually runs its course in a few days, weeks or extreme cases, months. Relief has been found through the moderate consumption of intoxicating beverages.

I feel victim to Knitters Distractitis and knit a sock with one of the decrease gussets going down the bottom of the foot. Egg nog anyone?

Many of us share your pain. But as a fairly neophyte knitter I want to thank you for posting a. . . well an 'oh drat' event. It is reassuring to be reminded that the knitting goddess strikes experienced knitters too. Hope your recovery from Knitters Distractitis is quick and painless.
On to the eggnog.

Oh, yes, indeed, I feel your pain. In my case, I start one project, get distracted by other projects, pick up the first one again, then manage to completely screw it up. And frog it, and start again, and pour a glass of wine. Wine sounds good right about now ...

Tried that pattern with the wrong yarn - pooling was so bad and I couldn't read my decreases/increases correctly anyway, so it never got past the first inch - and definitely no pictures; my memory is bad enough!

Hmm...odd puckering may be distressing, but might I point out the colour changes are lovely? I know you'll make it work.

Happy holidays!

Wait, wait! How did you fix it? How did it go from funky pooling to gorgeous stripes? Oh, and Merry Christmas!

i ripped it back to the cast on and followed the pattern properly. :-)

miracle, eh? (the pooling wasn't the problem -- it was the puckering. i wasn't doing it right.)
