a smack on the head with a can of vegetable juice

that is such a convoluted 70s pop-culture reference, i can't even stand it.

but seriously.

last night, i reached, again, for my new favorite scarf. it looks like this:

clearly, i didn't knit it. i bought it, while in London, at Muji. [it's not on their website...sorry] it's made from recycled cotton, woven into supersoft jersey, and it was cheap and i loved it instantly. it came in the recycled cardboard tube which i re-recycled when i gifted Noah's baby hats to his parents. :-) i wore the scarf everywhere. see?

my husband laughed at me. i'm a knitter, and my favorite scarf is store-bought? ah, poo.

i wore it out for the billionth time again last night to knit night at the Purple Purl. and suddenly realized. i reach for this scarf because it's light, it's cool, it feels good against my neck and it's made of SUPERFINE yarn.

wait a minute. i have lots of laceweight in my stash that i have no idea what to do with. guess what i cracked open when i got home?

i believe this may be an ongoing project of stockinetty love. it will certainly require very small needles. :-)

Wow. That's going to be beautiful when you're done, but it's going to take a reaaalllly loooooong time!

Oh MAN is that going to be fabulous. Hmmm...I wonder if the Purl Girls have anything in stock? I feel compelled to join you on this one....

Dammit, now I'm regretting letting Kathy have that OMG-so-perfect-purple Claudia's laceweight. Dammit.

I have the same thing going on with shop bought scarves! I began a laceweight 'swiss cheese scarf' - pattern came from a blog but I can't remember which - anyway, although I frogged it because I couldn't get the holes to line up teh feel of a lightwieght supersoft scaft was beautiful. You have inspired me to pick this up again.

It's going to look great! But you're right...it's going to be a looooooooooooooot of stockinetty love...a lot....tons even. :P

That's an excellent idea. I just finished two scarves in fingerweight and am on my third. But lace weight in stockinette? Great idea.

Drooling and wondering what it's going to look like once you start knitting. Picture of the swatch at least?

It's going to be gorgeous. I love Muji. We just got a freestanding Muji store in NYC and I bought two five-packs of their socks (which are also made of recycled materials).

Regina, you are a lucky buggeress. :-) I went mental in that shop and had to physically restrain myself.

The socks are on my list for the next time I visit you.

For those wanting a swatch pic, it's coming. I'll likely be knitting on 2mm needles or smaller (the swatch on 2.25mm is a bit loose. gak). Will treat myself to a pair of Addi Lace Circs to ease the pain.

Wow that's going to be stunning, can't wait to see it!

Amy, my favorite scarf is from a store, too - a lightweight but warm printed wool challis in gorgeous reds & purples. I realized I love it for the same reasons you love your Muji - and I have a lovely little skein of silk in my stash ... but won't stockinette just curl up and make a skinny little tube? Or is that what you want? Pics & deets, please!

Anne

stand by!

Y'all are all crazy.

Where did you get that yarn? It's beautiful and has me really intrigued.

What a wonderful idea! I have some laceweight which begs to be a soft scarf. Hmmmmm...

Hey! I also came to a similar realization-went to check out Morehouse Merino Farms- lots of interesting kits there for scarves out of laceweight- but ended up stash diving and I knit my scarf in the round-so I have a long tube-and I adore it!!!!

You know.... crochet is fast.

Way faster. and with the fine yarn...

Just saying is all...

love your dennyx0xx0

Link to the yarn please! I wish to virtually pet it.

Thank you :)

Hi Amy,

Where did you get the lace yarn? Who distributes it? Please help. :)
