what I did during Earth Hour

I was reading the latest issue of Spin Off by battery operated lantern light and realized that if I didn't pull out the wheel right then, I was clearly missing a strange anachronistic opportunity.

So this was me, spinning by candlelight [and a little battery-operated Coleman lantern], and it was very nice. I'm working on filling a bobbin with aqua-blue bamboo, and got quite a nice bit done tonight. Remarkable how much of spinning is touch-based, so not a lot of light was needed. Then again, I haven't really looked at what I spun in the dark. :-)

Have I mentioned recently how much I love my Schacht Ladybug? I do. I will elaborate in the next Knittyspin column.

p.s. in case you somehow missed it, Earth Hour details here. sure it's a gimmick, but anything that gets us to remember to turn off the lights is a good gimmick imo. our whole neighborhood is pretty much still dark and it's 10pm. really cool.

I have been knitting on a lacy cardi for my daughter by candle light.
It makes me wonder how anyone managed to evolve the much more intricate patterns, because every time I dropped a stitch the temptation to turn on the light to fix it was almost overwhelming.

awesome! me too! yay tencel!

I spun tonight during my hour too, it was so peaceful that I wanted to just leave the lights off and keep on spinning.

Can you believe I took a nap? And so now I'm wide awake at 2 in the morning, reading blogs and checking out things on Ravelry! Love the photo!

My neighbour and I sat out on our shared balcony and watched it get dark, drinks in our hands and shouting at everyone around us who still had their lights on (we're surrounded by apartment buildings, and they were lit up like $%*&* Christmas trees). Had a good time, though. :D

I did the same thing, only I did it out in a cabin way out in the country, in front of a fieldstone fireplace. The best part? Realizing that I could spin by feel and didn't even need the light.

You know--- I really think there needs to be a no sheep spinning book..... just sayin....

Tell me more about the Ladybug, please. I have one on order and am going crazy with anxiety/excitement as I haven't even tried it out!
Of course, I like how it looks BUT it has to do the job, too.
