i am like this.

I go to a craft show in the Beach on the weekend. I see beautiful peyote stitch beaded bracelets. Little shimmery lengths of tiny Japanese Delica beads in beautiful colors. They are $25 each [and up]. I remember the tubes of Japanese Delica beads I have in my [small, but reasonably useful] bead stash, bought just because the colors were so pretty and I'd figure out what to do with them later.

So, of course, I couldn't buy the bracelets. I had to make one of my own.

I started with google and found several pages of instruction. Sat down to do it and failed. Next morning, tried again. Failed. Searched Etsy for a finished one, because the amount of time I was wasting had to be worth $25. Didn't find anything I wanted. Searched for better instructions. Tried again in better light.

This time, I got it.

Yes, it's that tiny. Hub watched me adding rows to this little piece last night and called me Insane. With a capital I.

So I am, then. Oh well. At least I'll be Insane with a really cool bracelet.

Well *I* think it's lovely, and something I've been meaning to do with my (unreasonably oversized) bead stash. Good on ya for sticking to it!

I LOVE love love delica beads, they are so tiny and beautiful. I also have a small stash waiting to be made into a bracelette! I think I love stashing beads as they are relatively small and therefore you can stash A LOT!
I think I'm going to dig mine out, thanks for the inspiration!

I have SO many beads, I should really make some stuff.

I hear ya! I tried that many many years ago, as I saw cute little amulet bags with seed beads. I could never wrap my head around it.

There are these beaded banner kits from the craft magazines (Herrschners, Mary Maxim, etc) that is the same concept, just pony-bead size. That got the concept in my head!

Dear, we're all crazy. That's the point!

Two words: BEAD LOOM

Seriously! If I can find mine before SnB tonight I'll bring it.

Yes, bead loom!

Maybe it's called Peyote Stitch because you need Peyote to make it easier to do? Or it drives you to Peyote (rather than to drink)?

I SO do that too. I'm in denial about my bead stash and the fact that when I do get around to beading, I lose interest after one night. Lots of half-finished beady things all over my place. Which, of course, I can't bear to throw away.

I still don't get it - why don't you make us a "how to" so we can be Insane with you??

Man, this makes me want to see if my old bead loom is still around somewhere. I'd go nutso trying to do it by hand.

I use to teach this at a bead store about 15 years ago. I could of helped you.... hey look you don't need my help. You rock.

why am i not surprised that denny knows peyote? :-)

It is beautiful, and the scale equivalent of cobweb lace, eh? Best of all, it shouldn't make you too hot and sweaty in the summer. Come fall, back to knitting!

oh, i'll be back to knitting very shortly. this is just a temporary detour. i have lots of summer knitting to do!

The is a store in St. Paul called the Bead Monkey, and they just started offering a class on making an Argyle Peyote Stitch Bracelet.

Now don't you want one of those, too? I sure do!

Oooh, that looks like fun. I must be Insane, too.

I make peyote amulet bags and people think I am crazy... but they are the crazy ones... people who have no hobbies!... and sometimes people buy them!!... I also weave when my eyes need a break from beads... I worry that my bead stash might be larger than some bead stores!...
