who is stealing my stuff?!

This is driving me crazy.

First, this shawl, last photographed in its infancy [but actually two full skeins of knitting last time I saw it -- almost done!] is MISSING. I took it with me on the Alaksa cruise and I can't remember seeing it since. This doesn't bode well. I didn't knit much of anything on that cruise, so I was pretty sure the shawl stayed in my bag the whole freaking time. Except it's not there or anywhere.

Second, I just bought replacement size US6 tips for my needles and used them. And now they're missing. And for some ridiculous reason, I have no other size 6 needles in my house. I have ripped up couch cushions, looked under piles and in things that don't even vaguely relate to knitting and NO NEEDLES.

This is putting a serious cramp in my Vintage Office project starting. Grr.

Today, I'm doing the unthinkable. I'm going to see a different hairdresser. My guy doesn't read my blog, so it's safe to report this here.

He's a friend and a lovely guy. We're friends with his wife and his kids. But I just need to see someone different after more than 10 years.

I feel like a sleazebag. But I do have a story prepared in case I decide I'm going back to him after the cut today.

And if I don't, how the hell do I handle that, because he still cuts hub's hair. Oh, dangit -- he's the one that moved another half hour further away from us. Am I to blame, really? He forced me into it!

Don't think of it as cheating on your hair dresser, your just opening up the relationship to allow for new possibilities and experiences.

I think you have Boggins! My Great Nan would suggest holding up a broom (preferably of natural bristles)and declaring quite loudly that you would like your (fill in what's missing) returned promptly with no questions asked or you will sweep this house within an inch of it's life. When the missing items have reappeared your to pour a small bit of something stiff into a cup and leave it on the table.

I just went back to my favorite salon after an almost two year absence - and went back to a new hairdresser. My old one saw and recognized me, and I did feel rather bad. However, I needed something different!

I'm sure your missing things will show up just as soon as you stop looking for them.

Tell him you had a coupon, found a closer place, he was booked at the only time you could come, whatever. Or just don't say anything at all. People do this all the time.

So tell him you were inspired to get a new hairstyle after seeing Ann and Kay's music video! VBG!

As a hairdresser, I find it creates more awkwardness when someone tries to avoid the subject or feels the need to create a story. Just leave it to the truth. Of course, there is an appeal of going green and creating less carbon footprint by traveling further...which is also the truth.

xo and good luck with the new stylist and finding the knitting. I remember you knitting on it during the q and a after your class.

Ah, yes, the awkwardness! My whole in-law family, husband, and toddler go to the same hairdresser... I tried her twice, couldn't get the look I wanted (edgy and chic instead of conservative same-old), so off I went to another salon. The family hairdresser is still nice to me when I run into her around the city, and even suggests hair products for me to my husband! I empathize with your need for something different-- hope it's everything you want.

My size 7 Addi turbos didn't reveal their hiding place until I went out and bought another pair from my LYS whose policy is no refunds or exchanges on needles. Convenient, eh? Funny how things go missing and then eventually turn up-- except maybe things that were lost in Alaska. I'm so glad to hear that this happens to other people!

Are you sure you didn't tuck the shawl project away in another bag when preoccupied? I've done that, in the flurry of packing, and found things in the oddest places. I also just found the ribbon I bought for The Perpetual Manos - in a bag, buried under some other yarn.

About missing projects and tools: There are Knitting Demons. Believe it.

About the stylist: Tell the truth. They know anyway. I asked my stylist about this, and she said it is not a problem for her and probably wouldn't be a problem for yours.

Buy more yarn and needles, then go out of the shop and look at the sky and say, "Well, that's the way it goes sometimes." Then go home and cast on. Life is too short to worry!

Oh no! I recognize that yarn! Have you found it yet or do I need to send you some more?

Since I've just lost a bag containing my actual knitting project at Dortmund main station (a very unlikely place to get lost without being found) without getting it back, I can understand your feelings. *grrrrr*
Curse, you, yarn-thieves! ^^
