help me spend my birthday present!

How weird is this? I have a birthday-present Amazon gift certificate from my sister and her sweet hub burning a hole in my e-mail box and I cannot, for the life of me, make a decision about what to spend it on! Wanna tell me what I should buy?

I've got $75 to play with [they spoiled me!] and I can ship to their US address, so it can be anything Amazon sells. Things close to $75 but a little over are also cool. Books, music and DVDs are obvious choices, but too easy. I'm looking for...I don't know what! They don't sell yarn and I already looked for a Lazy Kate [not kidding].

If you're game, fill up my comments with your suggestions! Get creative! I don't promise that I'll pick one, but I just might...

I'll pick one commenter at random this Friday morning and send them something from the Knitty prize cupboard, so it'll be a little birthdayish for the winner, too! Let the coveting begin!

p.s. The cake above? Chocolate raspberry truffle. That's what hub got me to celebrate this birthday. It was UNBELIEVABLY delicious. <3 Dufflet.

---

eta: My birthday was a month ago, but thanks for the wishes! Thanks for the DVD recs, but I don't think DVDs this time, either. Sorry I left it out of the original post. It's in now. :-)

Favorite suggestion so far? Kaphine's accordion.
Closest to my own taste: I already have a fuzzy logic rice cooker [bought from Amazon!] and LOVE it huge. Also have 2 OTT-Lites.
Wish I had the budget to top it up for: the Kindle. But I don't. Oh well.

Keep commenting! I love your suggestions! Off to see what vintage they've got! :-)

Comments:
You could put the $75 towards a Kindle. My coworker has one and loves it! No more having to hold a book open.

You must have missed it, they DO have yarn. You go under home & garden; sewing, craft, & hobby; craft supplies; needlecrafts; knitting; and yarn. It comes up with over 2700 results!

How about a Roomba? Or a lighted fishing line counter to measure your yardage as you dye or spin? Happy shopping!

Some fab books on cd to listen to while knitting or on long trips. A gifted copy of Knitting in America saved me on a 5 hour drive to Iowa recently!

Women's Work: the First 20,000 years. I just saw a talk by Elizabeth Barber and found it fascinating, am looking forward to reading the book myself and have heard great things!

There's always the Knit Picks Harmony Circulars set--that's very cool! Elly

Digital photo frame? An OTT-Lite? Or a new watch?

I would have to choose DVD's to knit by. My favorites: Alias, Slings & Arrows or The Tudors.

Oregon Trail... Remember that? Amazon has it, and a lot of the other game, like the Carmen Sandiego games, cheap!

type in vintage....need i say more?

http://www.amazon.com/Crystalcello-AD200-Piano-Accordion-Carrying/dp/B000IFNBDU/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1226968994&sr=8-12

I don't know if you regularly exercise, but I found that a heart rate monitor really keeps me honest when I work out!

I would suggest purchasing some "Muppet Show" DVDs... maybe a full season or two along with an Anniversary edition. There is little better than knitting to Muppets!

I second the Kindle suggestion!

How about nice wicker or fabric storage baskets? Good to organize and to show off pretty yarns.

$75 worth of gourmet chocolate

I think you should get one of those Flip video cameras. I guess they're a little more than $75, like twice, but such a cheap, fun little video camera. You could use it for work, too.

Fun! I would suggest getting a heated electric mattress pad. That way you can preheat your bed on those cold Toronto nights. That is what I have been coveting since I just moved into a drafty Minneapolis apartment and it is getting COLD here.

My husband has given me two gifts over the years that have changed my life: a white noise machine (Marpac Sleepmate 980A) and a CHI hair straightener.

I whole-heartedly recommend them!

wow. amazon has yarn? srsly? TOTALLY checking that out. i have to second the muppets. how can you go wrong?

let's see. i have this great-looking faux-old fan on my list: http://www.amazon.com/Hunter-90021-Performance-Oscillating-Fan/dp/B0000A0E1T/ref=pd_ys_ir_all_8

i'm also in love with these little needle-gauge pendants: http://kpixie.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=90_398&products_id=6412&osCsid=67d466a2088c7856087d3c1498d54cf4

i have that little flip camcorder on my list, too, that someone else mentioned. what a great toy! (speaking of which, if you don't already have an iphone and amazon sells them, get thee one asap :)

i'm going to say that the book you'd love most of those on my list (other than no sheep for you, which i'm guessing that you have), if you do go for a book, is charley harper: an illustrated life: http://www.amazon.com/Charley-Harper-Illustrated-Life/dp/0978607651/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=IT4XKY430GJG2&colid=3GCZWFJYADW1M

something just tells me you like him as much as i do :)

good game--can't wait to see what you get!

I'd get something techey, like a good universal remote.

How about a rice cooker? I love my new one because I just dump everything in and can do whatever I like (knit?) while everything cooks and it beeps when it is done. Be sure to get one with "fuzzy logic" and a timer if you want things done at a specific time.

Hello Miss Amy!

Is today your birthday? It's my birthday, too yea, gonna have a good time... *focuses* HAPPY BIRFDAY!

You're so effing lucky - I dropped $76 CAD on post-retreat knitting books at Amazon.

My boss (the best boss ever) gave me "Victorian Lace Today" for my birthday. I love it & take it to bed with me. Such interesting patterns and history.

Have you picked up Nancy's (NANCY! nancy-nancy-nancy) Estonian lace book? Get-that-one.

Wondering when Amazon will get their act together and start selling Qiuvet,

Jocelyn

Well, first of all, happy birthday!
Second, yes, you are spoiled, but you deserve it!
Third, oh my! Trying to decide what to buy is always hard. I have so many things on my wishlist! Nancy Bush's new lace book is at the top of my list right now.

You've already got the iPhone (or iTouch, I forget which). That's high on my list, too.

Hmmmm. . . Probably most of the stuff on my wish list you already have (it's mostly knitting books, after all)!

I knit while watching television and with that in mind I think you should spend your money on Season 1 of HBO's The Wire. IMHO, this is one of the best T.V show's every. Of course then you'll be hooked and have to buy the rest. Or save money and check it out at your local library. My
$.02, for what it's worth.

I would go with the complete Oblong series on DVD (it cracks me up) and then the Spiderwick Chronicles book set. That's like a billion presents for $75!

i forget if you laptop it or not, but as my electrical tape solution ain't cutting it right now i vote an extra spare power adapter (the full kit, from wall to laptop).

otherwise: replacement lights for your light therapy device?

or a good set of headphones that are comfortable *for you* (we prefer the in the ear-buds, but that's us) noise cancelling if you can.

Big Love--seasons 1 and 2:

http://www.amazon.com/Big-Love-Complete-First-Seasons/dp/B000W4HIYU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1226974362&sr=8-3

Best series ever! (IMO)

Great watching for the upcoming winter and only $85

My expertise is in the toy/game section since I have been making wish lists for my kids. Anyway, are you into board games? There is a game called Ticket to Ride and it is quite fun to play. It appeals to a lot of folks since it isn't too heavy, but does require some strategy.

Or you could buy a Razor scooter (with a helmet for safety, of course)!

SHOES!! You can never have too many shoes, or boots, or clogs. A quick peek at the fun coloured rubber boots has got to be inspiring. My impression of your sense of humour points me to the bright fun ones.

Belated Happy da Birthday as well!

I always want to get knitting books from Amazon. I also enjoy browsing classic board games. They would be much less than $75, but you could always get a bunch.

Or you could preorder some of your favorite authors' next books and have the birthday present keep giving to you as they randomly come out.

How about some organizing boxes to treat your stash?

Bananagrams is a small, fun game that I played recently and have since been looking for everywhere. Guess who's got it? In a completely different vein, I've also been coveting a tivo wireless adapter so I can finally send what I've recorded to my computer. Hey, you could get both and still have something left over. Whatever you choose, Happy Birthday!

Oops, I didn't mean to post anonymously (above). Happy birthday from Carol.

Do you have a sewing machine? You can get a good starter machine for just under $100. Since it's a gift if you never use it then it's no big deal. :)

How 'bout a Sonicare?

I'd get a new sauce pot as mine are starting to fall apart (they're quite old)... or new recipe books, one can never have too many cookbooks!

Being the anime fan that I am, if I had $75 sitting in an Amazon.com giftcard, I'd collect the entire set of Mushishi (or what I haven't collected yet). It's such a beautiful series with such lovely artwork, perfect for knitting to, especially since the English dub is so well done. Delicious.

But that's just me and I'm sure I'm the only one who would do that with my giftcard. How about some Gypsy Tea or Big Train Chai in your shopping cart? Gorgeous stuff.

I would recommend the Logitech Harmony 670 or 880 Universal Remote. We just upgraded to the 880, but I can tell you that either one is a "godsend". Nothing erks me more than to have precious knitting time taken away by searching for the one remote out of eight or so that I need. You can program it to control anything that uses a remote (we even have it programmed to control our fans!). It is an awesome piece of technology!

Hey, I've found a ukulele microphone for precisely 75$! In case you'd like to share your progress with us... it's been a while since your last ukulele recording!

Fun! I think you might consider adding the "Crosley Kettle Classic Desk Phone CR62-Brushed Chrome" to your collection. It's a beaut!!

Mazel tov!

I like the gourmet chocolate choices, too. You could also get retro candy.

Wow, you could splurge with
"Swarovski Crystal Christmas Ornament, Annual Edition 2008
Buy new: $75.00 [our price]$71.95"

LizE

Flip video camcorder - $129 (early Christmas?) Easy to make and post YOU TUBE VIDEOS

I'd get the new season of Dr. Who Videos or a copy of the book "The Guernsey Literary and Sweet Potato Pie Society" which is great fun!

Happy birthday!

What about an adjustable sweater block fram? Cool huh?
http://www.amazon.com/Lacis-Adjustable-Sweater-Block-Frame/dp/B001IKCNTW/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1226987581&sr=1-16

Or
Carolina Yarn Bell for Knitting or Crochet. Handmade in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains

http://www.amazon.com/Carolina-Knitting-Crochet-foothills-Mountains/dp/B00181KB9K/ref=sr_1_46?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1226987672&sr=1-46

What about this for your jewelry tools? Work Bench Tool Rack Jewelers Watch Organizer Shelf Top
http://www.amazon.com/Bench-Jewelers-Watch-Organizer-Shelf/dp/B000RB26ZE/ref=sr_1_71?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1226988651&sr=1-71

I have a fly fishing organizer that I use for my needles circs and dps, but I couldn't find anything like that on amazon

Good luck! and let us know what you decide!

I'm going to suggest something completely frivolous...how about a chocolate fountain (http://tinyurl.com/58qj7a) and the chocolate to go in it (http://tinyurl.com/5uj34e)?

Do you already have a Wii fit?

A few years ago I bought a Calphalon Nonstick 11-Inch Square Griddle from
Amazon for my husband (he loves to make pancakes). It was kind of a joke gift for him since I said that it was the right size to whack him if he ever got out of line.....which he doesn't. We use that griddle all the time. It is great for grilling sandwiches, heating tortillas (we're in Calif. and get freshly made tortillas just minutes from our house), and any number of breakfast dishes. At $39.99 it is a bargain in my opinion.

Hey Amy,
as it's birthday gift why not splash out on something you wouldn't normally go for or justify spending your money on. Busy ladies rarely treat themselves to proper relaxation! So why not indulge a little with some luxury home treatments to keep you going and smelling gorgeous through the winter! Go on treat yourself!

Happy birthday!
x

A Cuisinart ice cream maker! It's the best thing I ever bought from Amazon, if you don't count books that is. It does a good job on full fat ice cream or healthy soy/fruit concoctions.

Canning supplies? Reidel wine glasses?

Feed your soul:
The Life of Pi
The Poisonwood Bible
Kite Runner
Dreams from my Father
Anything by David Sedaris
Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy, and the West
Harry Potter
Traveling Mercies

And just for fun:
The Vicar of Dibley The Divine Collection

My birthday was last week and my husband attempted to make me my favorite cake. It was wonderful and since it was my first birthday as his wife, I'll never expect another home made cake:)

A kindle!! It is THE IN THING! The gizmo of the year. If you use the key word OPRAHWINFREY, you get $50.00 off. Check Oprah's web site for details. This gadget was featured on her show recently as her new favourite thing. Have fun shopping!

I think something ukulele related! Or vespa related! If I knew more about ukuleles or vespas, I would suggest something more specific. But I don't so I wont---I'll leave that to you. :)

First I would get the Big Girl Knits and More Big Girl Knits…oh…you probably have those. The Kindle is way cool but way over the amount to spend so being budget minded...hmmmm

Definitely go with the Lighted Line Counter - Fishing - Accessories That’s $20…

Then the Dainty Undies -- Vintage Knitted Panties, Camiknickers and Underwear Pattern Book (Weldons Practical Needlework No. 229)...that makes $33 total

Ryland Peters & Small Books-Knitting Notes makes $40 Total.

I would choose one of these just to see what they have to say: ($55 Total)The Knitting Way, Zen and the Art of knitting, Mindful Knitting

…and to throw in some variety…A Mercy by Toni Morrison...That makes close to $70 with some left for tax and shipping AND it woulf be like a magic knitting grab bag...gadgets and all!!!

Happy Late B-Day!
lamurray on ravelry

How about some knitting books that you want?

Happy Birthday!
I'd get a couple of Lucy Neatby's DVD's and Chocolate!

A slow cooker (crockpot). Pathetic, but it changed my life. Recommended: Rival 64451LD-C. And with what you have left, a copy of Her First American, by Lore Segal (great book), and 50 Years of Hits by George Jones (great music).

A pair of knit boots! Yes, they're already knit for you, but there are so many to choose from. So stylish AND warm. I love the "Rebels Women's Cinnabun Boot" and there is a special offer when you scroll down for $20 off. Doubly good ;)

HB2U!
Bren

I recommend a Harvey's Seatbelt bag. They come in fabulous colors and are perfect textile people.
Susan

I know that I love to poke around in the gourmet section and drool over all of the chocolates and cheeses I wish people would get for me. Why not get them for yourself?

hmmm... if i had $75 to spend at amazon, i would get a kitchen appliance (slow cooker/crockpot perhaps), a new pair of dansko clogs, or some camera stuff. i could get a tool for my husband or some books for my kids, but i'm feeling selfish right now. :-)

Audio. You can't hold a book and knit at the same time. Depending on the project's difficulty you can't watch TV wile you knit. But you can always listen to a book being read to you by someone else.

My mother, for example, is a fiend for the Jim Dale recordings of the Harry Potter books. Granted, she uses them as a non-addictive sleep aid (Jim Dale is rather soothing), so she can't knit to them, but still. They're a lovely thing to own.

How about the UKULELE LADY - HAWAIIAN VINTAGE PRINT? here:
http://www.amazon.com/UKULELE-LADY-HAWAIIAN-VINTAGE-PRINTChoose/dp/B000LPEG68/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1227019666&sr=8-16. Of course that's only $20 worth, but it's a start! Belated Happy Birthday!

I have a few suggestions. One is board games! They're such fun, and if you get the right ones, you can knit while you play ;-) Don't Forget the Lyrics is a new television game show, and Amazon has version of it for $22.99 - it's on my wish list!

While you play, have a cup of tea from St. Dalfours, a delightful French tea company that has an amazing organic tea line: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hpc?url=node%3D3760931&field-keywords=st.+dalfour+tea&x=0&y=0

If you're going to have tea, steep it in your own teapot: http://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-Tea-Pot-%252d-White/dp/B000UU5IO8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_9?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1227022945&sr=8-9

While you're playing board games and drinking tea, you should also have music on (unless you get the board game about music, that is too hard to do). Dr. Demento's has just the right amount of hilarity to keep you laughing!
http://www.amazon.com/Hits-Outer-Space-Dr-Demento/dp/B00006SFAA/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I29IKDAJQNMWBO&colid=2WDH70JDXCQJE

Belated Happy Birthday. Did you realize that they have knitting needles on Amazon. How about the Knit Picks Harmony set? There are some great craft totes there too. But I found yarn too. Here (hope this lets me link) Nothing sensational you understand, Sugar and Cream cotton and some acrylics but yarn, none the less. On Amazon. Who knew?

Hmmm, that is a tough choice! Me, I'd put it toward a Kitchenaid stand mixer, but I love to bake. Or a food processor, same reason!

A new digital camera -- sorry, that's what _I've_ been looking for! Best wishes for a happy birthday and a great year!

The last thing I bought from amazon was... a book called "From Good to Great" for my brother who is starting his own business. Excellent book, but I would go for something more fun...

The last thing I bought for MYSELF, was a bunch of Belly Dancing DVDs, and not the normal stuff, but TRIBAL bellydancing.

Definately check out Beats Antique's Tribal Derivations and for Bellydancing, try Rachel Brice or Contemporary Bellydance and Yoga Conditioning. You won't be sorry!

Amazon sells shoes!!!! Have you seen them?

Of course, you could always get a Kindle!!

I would buy a Meyer Lemon tree. $50 in a clay pot. I love it!

http://www.amazon.com/Clay-Pot-Meyer-Lemon-Tree/dp/B0006TAHS0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1227028066&sr=8-4

music, I say, music! Of course, it depends on what you like, but I would suggest lots of music:

Lost Christmas Eve by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Keep it Simple Van Morrison
Mamma Mia soundtrack
Any CD by Shirley Horn

HI, I think you should get anything that you would use to relax this holiday season. It is so much to just do our day. How about a cookbook to change up your meals. And well, I want to try to find Nancy Bush's Folk Socks book. I also got Charlene Schurch's "LIttle Box of Socks" book. It is super cool! Laminated take and knit directions are great if you have little ones!
Jdhforjc

What about Godiva Chocolate....every girl needs chocolate!!

Amazon has so much to choose from; you can get more than just one, or two, or three!!!

We just bought a Cuisinart ice cream/sorbet maker from Amazon and are absolutely in love with it. And it's close to your price range. :)

I would definitely go for the Harmony interchangeables - so beautiful!

I have been looking at the yarn, as usual, but something unique would be more appropriate for your birthday! How about an aebelskiver pan? You can make all kinds of flavors and toppings, for any time of day. and it's fun! Or a set of straight sided cake pans. They have always appealed to me for some reason.

That cake must ahve been heaven!

i hear the new sarah vowell book, the wordy shipmates, is supposed to be good -- and just in time for thanksgiving!

What about something for your kitchen? Or, an accessory for your PDA or cell phone? The possibilities are endless - no wonder you're having such a hard time.

Saw the comment about the Roomba, which I have and is AWESOME - even with two kids, a dog, and a cat! So, I'm going to push the Scooba... it not only vaccuums the linoleum, it also mops & dries it!

You could get some spa stuff. A hot water foot massage thing is only $30, so you could get a couple spa things and set yourself up for a great night. Spa socks for when your feet are done. There is a facial sauna for under $30.

I wouldn't know what to spend it on either. Maybe they have a cute Rockabilly style dress with a bit of a ruffle and polkadots.

Something you can go and be styling in!

I'd go with an assortment of really fun games. What's better on a cold winter night than a few friends, some wine, and a good game. I highly recommend: Killer Bunnies, Squiggle, and Fluxx.

Get a Rubis stainless steel tweezer. It's worth every penny if you like precision made tweezers.

deluxe Scrabble game....you can knit in between turns...it's always a good way to spend an evening with anyone!

CD audio books by Agatha Christie. I love them and they are great to knit and spin to.

That would be my choice.

And if you can't guess I'm from the UK :)

I have an Amazon wish list on my blog with everything from books, CDs, and DVDs to a swift, perfume, and a Kitcjenaide mixer. When there is something I definitely want to own for a long time, I look to see if it is available at Amazon and if it is, I add it. Then when Elizabeth wants to get me a present or I want to splurge myself, we just consult the list. A friend for whom I knit a scarf/hat/mitt set just sent me EZ's Knitting Workshop as a thank you from my wish list!

Amazon is a thing of beauty. Have fun and Happy Birthday!

PS...We need a seasocks leaving out of Galveston...

I would say a bread maker. I love homemade bread, but am at a loss for time most days. The machine does the work for me. If I am feeling ambitious, I use the dough setting and bake in the oven. Easy Peasy...Also, I would get a stainless steel lunch box (to-Go-Ware). I love the one we have, but my husband always takes it. I don't work outside the home, but the kiddos and I are hardly home. Anice lunch box would be grand.

There's a nice vespa poster print here:
http://www.amazon.com/Pareja-Styles-Framed-Poster-Lourenco/dp/B000UHXWE4/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1227065605&sr=1-24

Sadly, not the color of yours.
Maureen

Hi Amy!

It truly is quite tough to decide on what to get when you've got a gift card. Limited amounts of money you didn't give up, but someone else did so it better be worth it. But that's why you have us readers. Hopefully you get an idea!

In any case, I'm all about storage. Seriously. I have no idea how you store your yarn, or how much you have, but perhaps some sort of storage device for your yarn, books, supplies, etc., would be useful. Even if you have one in place, it never hurts to reorganize or adjust objects within a room, sometimes I find it inspirational.

This cube-y unit looks good for yarn but not sure about much else. But it's still very cute and would leave you with money to buy something else:
http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-8505-15-Cube-Organizer-White/dp/B000AXM2EY/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1227084236&sr=1-28

Either one of these cube-y storage compartments would work excellently for both yarn and books anddd, any left over money could be spent getting baskets, that are made to fit perfectly inside, if you'd like:
http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-8694-6-Cube-Organizer-White/dp/B000RO0TT6/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_img_b
or
http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-8644-9-Cube-Organizer-White/dp/B000ETOG6G/ref=pd_bxgy_hg_img_c

with these baskets (that come in colours to suit any decor!):
http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-8654-Fabric-Drawer-Green/dp/B000RO7I72/ref=sr_1_54?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1227084251&sr=1-54

I would suggest a vintage piece but they're quite pricy.

:)

Curious to know what you will decide upon,

Seema

This looks interesting:

http://www.amazon.com/Lark-In-The-Morning-Octave/dp/B0002PCNGC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1227099983&sr=1-1

a "two octave thumb piano" made from a gourd!

Happy Belated Birthday!!!

http://www.amazon.com/SPI-30748-Crab-Doorknocker/dp/B000352TQK/ref=cm_lmf_tit_12/175-5458387-3952115

How about this? Because one can never have too many crab doorknockers. On the plus side, you'd have some money left for something else.

How about a great bag to cart around your projects?
This one is nice:
http://www.amazon.com/Shown-Modern-Union-Metro-Yoga/dp/B0010KLQ9I/ref=sr_1_197?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1227105030&sr=1-197
This one too!
http://www.amazon.com/Global-Elements-Shoulder-Light-Brown/dp/B0014FD6K6/ref=sr_1_247?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1227105931&sr=1-247
Enjoy your present!

I would buy this very cute portable turntable...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DHVN3/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

This is a fascinating exercise, knowing nothing about you (except that you live in Canada and knit) the idea of suggesting a birthday present is really interesting.

If it were me, there are a handful of things I've had my eyes on:

*a set of harmony wood needles from knit picks
*Big girl knits & more big girl knits
*a nice dress
*a knife set
*charcoal baskets for my bbq

But I totally think you should get a pretty piece of jewlery, maybe a stunning shawl pin.

I second the Roomba idea, and add Spanish goodies from La Tienda thru Amazon - the Piquillo peppers are fabulous stuffed with goat cheese and heated!

How about Legos? I don't know if you have kids, but mine is obsessed with them, so I've been playing with them a lot myself lately, and I have to say, they really are a lot of fun. Building the more elaborate sets according to the specs satisfies the left brain, then taking them apart and coming up with your own creations satisfies the right brain. Whatever you get, enjoy! And Happy Birthday!

A Theme: "What I would buy with a $75.00 gift card to Amazon.com"

-A puzzle ring: beautiful and clever!
-The CD 'Art of the Bawdy Song': If you think Shakespeare's comedies were hilariously dirty, you'll love this CD.

There is only one choice. The tabletop hot dog stand. It's $70US, and you might even have enough for shipping. Maybe a hot dog cart would qualify for the free shipping deal?

Check it out!

Serious, I have a friend who has this on his wishlist. One came up on Freecycle in our area and he missed picking it up by 5 minutes.

How about foam pads for blocking. That's what I covet & this is a giant package of them. You could block something monsterous.

I know you said you don't want DVDs, Amy, but if you've never watched Coupling (the original BBC version), it's totally worth getting the DVD set. Hilarious. Really. http://www.amazon.com/Coupling-Complete-Seasons-Jack-Davenport/dp/B0006HBLU0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1227151782&sr=8-1

What about a thermal cooking pot? I think it's a pretty cool idea and friends tell me it works really well if you don't like leaving things on the stove or in the slow cooker unattended. http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-SNAE-B45-Stainless-Thermal-Cooking/dp/B00004S57K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1227151432&sr=1-1

Along the lines of games, I second the idea of Fluxx. They even have a special Monty Python edition, if that's your thing. http://www.amazon.com/Monty-Python-Fluxx-Deck/dp/B001IJ5HSC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1227151582&sr=8-4

Another super fun game is Apples to Apples. http://www.amazon.com/Apples-Party-Box-Hilarious-Comparisons/dp/B00112CHCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1227151678&sr=1-1

Hi Amy!

How fun! A salad spinner is at the top of my list this year. Two other suggestions: A towel warmer? or portable car seat warmers! Perfect for someone wintering in CCCCanada! Brrr!

I have to agree with the other Roomba suggestions. It cleans, and it's so freaking cute.

I know you said no DVDs either, but I still think that Planet Earth would be a stellar buy. It would never get dated and you'd never get tired of it, you know?

I was going to say shoes/boots, because Amazon is always sending me shoe promos, but you'd probably only be able to buy one! What about something for the kitchen - ice cream or bread maker, a top-of-the-line knife or two,...?

Hi Amy,

I found out that Amazon does sell yarn. If you go into the main menu, there is an apparel click. If you look under the apparel, they have posted yarns like Misti Alpaca Yarn and et al. I can not imagine this will help, but I thought you might like to know.
