After getting hit in the NECK by a cicada whilst going 50 mph, I decided that it’s time to invest in better riding clothes. What do you guys wear when you ride in the summer?

I’m interested in the answers to this one too.

Ouch!
I’m not sure there is anything out there summery that would protect you from that. What kind of helmet were you wearing?
I’m just wearing my helmet, jeans, decent shoes, and a long sleeved shirt. I’m not all that particular about the long sleeved shirt once it gets above 90 degrees either. I’ll go with half or 3/4 sleeves. It’s my road rash to suffer if I go down.

I have a 3/4 helmet with a clear visor thingie. I would have been okay if the critter hit me in the head, I think. I got all creeped out when he hit me in the neck. I couldn’t tell right away if he bounced off or fell into my jacket. There was a tense moment on the scooter, let me tell you. (He bounced.)

Right now, even in 90+ degree weather, I’m riding in my Aprilia Racing sweatshirt jacket (with Cicada-proof crew collar, lol). That way I can wear whatever short sleeved top I want underneath and can just peel off when I get to where I’m going.

I’m pretty adamant about having long sleeves/long pants at all times when I’m riding (not looking forward to August). In fact, I’ll be getting my upgrade in the mail soon–a leather Icon motorcycle jacket with some padding in all the right places. Leather can actually stay cooler than fabric, especially if it’s vented. Fabric has a skid factor of about 3 ft before you’re looking at emergency skin grafts. Leather can go for about 100. I like my skin enough to want to give it a fighting chance in the event that I go down.
