INTRODUCTION

Presto Vesto

beauty shotby

Tangy

Vests are the ultimate layering piece. They can go over short sleeves, long sleeves, shirts, or dresses. They can be there just to warm your core, or you can throw a coat over them too for extra cozy warmth.

Presto Vesto aims to be even more versatile, incorporating a double-sided separating zipper, and of course, pockets. A twisty cable pattern anchors the lower portion of the vest and transitions to ribbing for the remainder of the piece. A folded collar and ribbon to cover the zipper tape add extra finishing touches to make it extra special.

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]

Construction method: The back and fronts are worked separately from the bottom up. The folded collar and armhole edgings are added after seaming. A separating zipper is sewn in and sandwiched in the folded collar. Grosgrain ribbon is sewn to the inside of the sweater over the zipper tape for a finished look.

Sloped Bind-off: Important: Use the sloped bind-off method throughout when shaping armholes and shoulders. On the row before the bind-off, slip the last stitch. On the bind-off row, slip the first two stitches, pass the first slipped stitch over the second, BO remaining stitches as usual.

Measure front opening from approximately .5 inch / 1.5 cm to halfway up collar. Shorten zipper to this length (if necessary). Baste each side of zipper to front opening, beginning .5 inch / 1.5 cm from the lower edge up to the halfway point on the collar, folding under zipper tape at the top. Fold collar down over the zipper. Sew zipper in place. Cut two lengths of grosgrain ribbon slightly longer than zipper tape. Sew in place over zipper tape. Sew bind-off edge of collar to picked up edge along the inside.
