Petal is an airy cover up for the Spring and Summer months.
The vine lace pattern is easy to memorize, and the A-line shape
flatters any figure. The V-neck mitered garter stitch collar
adds a tailored, classic touch to this versatile piece. It is
a great way to show off that single vintage button you might
have lying around.

PATTERN NOTES [Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]
Petal is worked in pieces from the bottom up.
The mitered garter stitch collar is worked separately and sewed
on. The button bands are worked at the same time as the fronts.
Vine Lace Pattern (Over a multiple of 9 sts, worked flat)
Work from written or charted instructions,
as you prefer. Rows 1 & 3 [WS]: Purl. Row 2 [RS]: K1, yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2,
yo. Row 4 [RS]: Yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo,
k1.
Working Decreases in the Pattern:
In the vine lace pattern stitch, each increase
is paired with a decrease in a group of four stitches –the
first yarnover is paired with the ssk decrease that follows
2 sts later; the second yarnover is paired with the second
decrease, the k2tog.
You will be working decreases into the pattern. If you
don’t have enough stitches to work the yarnover, omit
its associated decrease and work that group
of 4 sts in stockinette stitch instead.
