When this lace stitch was first described to me, I immediately picked up needles and yarn to give it a shot. What I came up with, as it turns out, was inverted, upside-down and backwards (so much for my reading comprehension!) but I thought it was pretty neat.

The pattern does appear to be very long but it is very simple. The numerous sections are due to the V shaping. If you prefer the traditional triangular shawl shape one can be made from the instructions as well (see pattern notes).

Ella is the perfect compliment for any goddess and a surprisingly speedy knit.

Also, this is a very forgiving pattern. If you find you are short one stitch in a section, make one using a bar increase; likewise, if you have too many sts, work a k2tog or p2tog (yes, I do have an aversion to tinking).

HandMaiden Lady Godiva [50% silk, 50% wool; 278yd/250m per 100g skein]; color: Sea Storm; 3 skeins

1 24-inch US #10/6mm circular needle
Split ring marker or safety pin
Spare circular needle, US 10/6mm or smaller
If you do not have a spare needle, waste yarn or a large stitch holder may be used
GAUGE
20 sts/24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Skp: Slip one stitch purlwise, knit one stitch, pass slipped stitch over.

YO2: Yarn over twice; two sts created. On the following row, one of the sts just created will be knit, and the other st will be purled.

To make a triangular shawl instead of a V-shaped shawl, work Section 1, then work Section 2 until shawl is desired size, ending with Row 10 or Row 20. Knit 2 more rows, then bind off
