Or: To Market, To Market To Be A Yarn Hog

By Jillian Moreno

Spring things, spring things, what will you use to knit your new spring things?
Will you knit with a yarn that has a silky feel?
Fiesta’s got a silk chenille that’s a real sexy deal.
Noro, Elite, Karabella, and Dale have blends just right.
Silk combined with cotton sure makes it light.

Spring things, spring things, what will you use to knit your new spring things?
Will you knit them with the newfangled denim yarns?
These denim yarns don’t shrink, so have no alarm
Berocco and Bliss have cool denims to knit.
With a dozen shades of blue, you’re sure to find a fit.

Spring things, spring things, what will you use to knit your new spring things?
Will you knit them with ribbon or tape?
There’s a boodle of 'em, make no mistake
Rowan has a cotton, GGH velvety rayon, Artful a cotton & rayon too,
But Colinette’s new smooth rayon tape may send you over the moon.
Flat ones, fat ones, there’re ribbons plain and funky.
Ribbons, ribbons, let us knit warm-weather chunky.

Spring things, spring things, what will you use to knit your new spring things?
Will you knit them with novelty string?
Metallic, hairy, slinky, fuzzy, most any texture...
They’re still a big thing.

Spring things, spring things, what will you use to knit your new spring things?
Of course there’s cotton. In every shape and size.
It’s the colorways, not the content, that’s the surprise.
Marled cottons are the biggest this spring.
Two (or more) colors twisted together make multicolors with zing.

Spring things, spring things what colors are’ in’ for your new spring things?
There are two camps for color this year, as ever.
Soft ones and bright ones, they think they’re so clever.
The soft ones look vintage, romantic straight out of Marc Jacobs.
For the bright ones think boho and sports fan clubs.

Spring things, spring things what trends are big for your new spring things?

Girly-girl 1940s with shoulders and waists.
1960s hippies with crochet and embroidery embraced.
World trends stop this year in China and Spain.
Mandarin collars and flamenco ruffles to entertain.

Military’s a trend, boy what a bore.
I don’t think we want to be reminded of war.
Sporty style is still a goodie.
Keep on knitting those draw-stringed, pocketed hoodies.

If the new stuff doesn’t tickle you, don’t go on strike.
Do what all great knitters do & knit what you like!
