Florine is a triangle shaped shawl worked from the top down. It is named after the artist Florine Stettheimer (1871 -1944) whose work celebrated the good life, parties, gatherings, beauty and decoration. In her Portrait of Myself she reclines on a red shawl with a sun ray edging, in the upper right is a yellow sun with radiating triangles, it's a recurring motif in her work, whimsical and joyful, I tried to convey a similar feelings of happiness for Knitty's grand 10th birthday.
It was a dream of mine to design hand-knitting patterns and thanks to Knitty editor, Amy Singer, that dream came true. She accepted my design Eyelet skirt almost ten years ago and since then I've worked steadily in the knitting world. My personal life has had great ups and downs and knitting has been there always as a source of inspiration.
I chose to use Quince & Co Tern yarn because it has a great feel, the silk content gives a wonderful drape and hand but also because I wanted to pay tribute to Pam Allen, one of the founders of Quince & Co and former editor of Interweave Knits, as she also played a big part in my life as a knitting designer.

M1 (Make one):
Insert left needle, from front to back, under the horizontal strand which lies between the stitch just knit, and the following stitch; then knit into the back of this loop. 1 stitch increased.
MB (Make bobble):
On RS, (Purl into the front, back and front) of one stitch, turn. K3, turn. P3, turn. K3, turn. P3tog.
Sl 1, p2tog, psso: With yarn in front, slip 1 as if to purl, p2tog, then pass slipped st over p2tog.
Construction: Triangle shawl is worked from the top. Once the foundation rows are worked, 4 sts are increased every right side row, one yo at each end (before and after the 2 edge sts), and one yo on either side of the center stitch. The right and left sides of the triangle mirror each other.
It is helpful to place markers after the first two edge sts, on either side of the center st and before the last two edge sts. The stitch count in Chart Two varies because of the lace pattern.
Changing colors: Always cut previous yarn when changing colors.

Cut MC, and work another full repeat of the chart, changing color as follows: Rows 1-4: CC. Rows 5-8: CC1. Rows 9-12: CC2 Rows 13-16: CC Rows 17-20: CC1 Rows 21-24: CC2.
243 sts when four repeats are complete.
Begin Chart Two:
Work Rows 1-48 (working 12-st repeat 9 times across row, adding additional repeats as the shawl widens), changing color as follows: Rows 1-12: CC. Rows 13-14: CC1. Rows 15-16: CC. Rows 17-18: CC1. Rows 19-20: CC2. Rows 21-22: CC1. Rows 23-24: CC. Rows 25-26: CC1. Rows 27-28: CC. Rows 29-30: CC1. Rows 31-32: CC2. Rows 33-34: CC1. Rows 35-36: CC. Rows 37-38: CC1. Rows 39-40: CC2. Note: if you are using markers for the pattern repeats that on the Right chart, markers will move 1 st to the left on Rows 3, 13, 15, 25, 27, 37 and 39 and 1 st to the right on Rows 7, 9, 19, 21, 31, 33, 43 and 45. Reverse the direction you move the marker for the Left chart.
