Fall makes a knitter's heart beat faster,
and as readers, we've seen that you
can't get enough.
So we made more. Starting with this issue,
fall begins in July. Because how can
you have a fall sweater ready to wear
if you don't start a little ahead of
the season?
So welcome to First Fall. We think First
Fall is about transition. Knitting
for cool nights now and the cooler
days to come. It's about having a choice
of light layers to wear, so that you're
comfortable, whether you're in an over-air-conditioned
office or sitting in an Adirondack
chair beside a lake, enjoying the breeze.
There are also some lovely little delights
to knit now, so you can get a jump
on your holiday projects.
By the time our next issue -- Deep Fall --
comes out in October, you'll be in
the thick of chilly weather, ready
for some heavy-duty coziness, and that's
what you'll get.
Congratulations to the winners of our Spring+Summer
contests. The list of prizes and
winners [who have already been contacted]
is here.
You didn't win? That's okay. We've got lots
of contests around
here!
Have you checked out what the Knitty advertisers
have to offer lately? Many of our advertisers

click through to see what new things
each advertiser has to offer. They
have everything covered, from books to yarn
to patterns to bags and accessories.
It's like an online catalog, no recycling
required.
Check out our Knitty advertisers' wares by
clicking on their ads -- because it's
thanks to their support that Knitty
comes to you 100% free of charge. And
if you need something, think of a Knitty

I love this time of year -- summer stretching
into the early fall; it’s fiber paradise time. There
are still plenty of fiber shows and
retreats on the schedule. These end-of-season
shows come with a peaceful mood.
Gone is the feeling of wanting to
do/buy/spin everything. The fiber
world is in a lower gear, there’s lots of
chatting and hanging out. There is
still plenty of outdoor time to have
friends over and spin outside, plenty
of time for washing fleeces and dyeing
fiber. Enjoy your time in the sun.
This first fall Knittyspin has patterns
and techniques to try for early
fall: a chunky, thick-and-thin vest
by Amy King, a fabulous funky scarf
by Myrrhia Resneck, a first handspun
yarn project by Jodie Lucas, a "just a little
bit of handspun" on a cool convertible
sweater by Becky Herrick. The Knittyspin
Glossary is all about Navajo plying

Don’t forget to checkout the newly revamped Knittyblog – Tuesday
is always about spinning.

I love to talk about it all.
