Because it's a layering opportunity. Where I live, if it's hot, you can't get naked enough to be comfortable, and societally, nakedness doesn't really fit in up here.
But when you're cold, you can put on a sweater (as Brenda Dayne reminds us at the end of every podcast), because that's what they're for. Still cold? Put on another layer!
This issue is full of all sorts of things that will warm you, top to bottom. Our cover pattern, the beautiful Hibernate, will keep your legs warm as you knit it larger and larger. Blankets are great for that.
Anyway, so many patterns to talk about, and so little time, so I'll just direct you to the Pattern index. Poke about. Add things to your Ravelry queue. Cast on!
Stay tuned to the knittyBlog for our ongoing year of contests! Watch our Twitter feed just because it's fun and silly, and because if anything spontaneous happens, it gets announced there first! Join in the fun on our Facebook page. And tell new knitters, whenever you meet one, about Knitty. Share the fun.
And make sure to read Franklin's column this issue. He's got a surprise for you.

This winter I am digging in and digging out. I am going to spin from my stash this whole winter, I want to use it up or get rid of it. I want to be ready for spring this year with space in my stash spot for new fibers from the spring shows.
There are fabulous patterns and articles in this issue of Knittyspin that are going to help get me through that stash: Darrowby, an aran jacket by Lisa Grossman, and an article about how a less than perfect fleece became this gorgeous sweater. Less Is More, a colorful cardigan, by Amy King and an article about mixing variegated yarns and fibers to make the perfect sweater. And the wondrous Wanderlust, gorgeous, long, thick mitts by the ingenious women at Spincycle.
Are you planning your spinning goals for 2013 yet? I know 2013 will see me teaching more, whether through teaching in person or teaching through writing. I hope to meet many more of you in person!
