You, dear reader,
yes. But mostly I am glad that
fall has returned. Because I hate
hot. Shvitz is not my friend.
But fall is,
with breezes cool enough to make
us wrap up in what we've knit,
but not so cold that we have to
cover our beautiful handwork
with a nasty winter coat. It is
my favorite season.
This issue, we
celebrate fall by turning 9. Nine
is one less than ten, meaning this
time next year, we'll be talking
about a decade of Knitty. But we're
not there yet.
So for our 9th
birthday, we present an assortment
of some of the most beautiful sweaters
we may have ever published, if
we are allowed say so. Few of them
are mindless, but sometimes mindless
knitting [another of my favorite
things] has to be put aside in
order to have a sweater worthy
of the season. [I'm currently knitting
Beatnik from
Deep Fall 2010 and that baby is
the polar opposite of mindless.]
We love all the
patterns in this issue, and hope
some of them will make your knitter's
heart beat a little faster.
Happy fall, everyone.
Regular readers
of Knitty have noticed that we've
been Theresa-less for a year. A
whole year. It was for good reason,
though.
Theresa has moved
back to the US, after living in
Norway for more than a decade!
Her husband made the suggestion
and poof, now they're Stateside,
and living a very different life.
Want to know
more about Theresa's big move?
Watch the KnittyBlog this
coming Thursday. She tells all
there.
Welcome back,
Theresa. We've really missed you!
There's
always something happening here...

I’m not going to Rhinebeck
this year or SOAR, I didn’t
even go to my two hours away Michigan
Fiber Festival. This year I really
can’t afford the fiber shows – we
need a new roof for our house;
so extra travel and spending have
been curtailed. I’m sad I
don’t get to see friends
or take classes or shop. But I’m
putting a positive spin on it,
here’s how.
Fiber
Friends: I’ll
miss seeing the friends I usually
only talk to online. But I haven’t
been great about seeing the fiber
friends that live in my own town;
we spend more time talking on line
than talking face to face. So I’m
going to host a spinning get together
or two, maybe even throw a carding
party.
Classes: I’ve
been lucky enough to take a lot
of classes this year. Have I practiced
the things I was determined to
practice when I left those classes?
No, well, maybe one.
So I’m going to get out
my class outlines and notes and
practice those skills that really
tickled something in my spinning
brain. And I’m going to set
up a little dyeing studio in my
basement.
Stash: Do
I even need to address this one?
I’ll actually spin
the fiber I have. I have
a bunch. One of my many excuses
for adding to the stash is “Stashing
for a rainy day”. Now is
the time for me to open my stash
umbrella! Plus, I can trade fiber
with my fiber friends that I mentioned
before, card it into something
new or dye it in my soon-to-be-set-up
dye studio.
My fall and winter is looking
pretty great. What fibery things
will you be doing?
p.s. don’t
forget to check in most Tuesdays
on the KnittyBlog when I talk
about things fibery.
