INTRODUCTION

Honeycreeper

beauty shotby

Tangy

Featuring bold stripes and knitted in a softly fuzzy featherweight yarn, Honeycreeper nods to the plumage of the namesake passerines. Created by holding two strands of laceweight yarn together as one, the fabric is light, fluffy, and features a gorgeous haze. It also works up wonderfully fast. Soothing stockinette stitch and understated ribbing make this a project perfect for a knit night at the brewery or a bit of Knitflix.

This cardigan will fit instantly into your capsule wardrobe, whether you decide to take color inspiration from the boundless beauty of nature or keep it cool and classic with neutrals.

Honeycreeper is knit using Universal Yarn Penna, holding two strands together as one throughout.

MATERIALS

Yarn
Universal Yarn Penna [50% baby Suri alpaca, 28% extra fine merino, 22% nylon; 25g/186 yds];
spacer 105 Mulberry (MC); 6[7, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12] balls
spacer 109 Manuka (CC); 4[5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8] balls

Yarn Characteristics
spacer Penna is a lace-weight yarn with a brushed texture. It is comprised of baby Suri alpaca, extra fine merino wool, and nylon and comes in sixteen solid colors. Laceweight blends of silk and mohair will also yield similar results. The pattern is knit with two strands of this fuzzy laceweight held together.

You may elect to substitute with an aran- or worsted-weight yarn if you do not wish to hold two strands together throughout the project. If you do, choose an option that is lightweight and has a brushed, fluffy texture in lieu of a more structured, 4-ply yarn, to get the same look.

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]

This cardigan is knit from the top down. The body and sleeves are separated at the underarms. The button bands are worked flat, separately, and sewn to the body, adding a bit of structure and stability to the button bands. After joining the button bands to the body, stitches for the neckband are picked up and worked flat. Buttons are sewn to the sweater as the final step.

In this pattern, always hold two strands together as one for both MC and CC. Main Color (MC) = 2 strands of MC held together as one. Contrast Color (CC) = 2 strands of CC held together as one. This makes for a fluffier fabric that will keep you warm and cozy all winter.

To avoid "at the same time" instructions, the yoke shaping is written out fully for each size. To stay on track, we recommend that you read through the Raglan/Yoke Shaping section thoroughly. Take note of each instance that refers to your chosen size.
