INTRODUCTION

Verdant Path

Verdant Path is a set-in sleeve, no button, V-neck cardigan that follows individual cables and stockinette stitch bands up the front of the cardigan to the neck where they are joined at the back of the neck to form a more intricate cable pattern. The individual cables follow their straight path as the intricate cable zig zags across them.

PATTERN NOTES

[Knitty's list of standard abbreviations and techniques can be found here.]

Construction method: The Left and Right Fronts of this cardigan are worked separately first from the bottom-up, then joined at the back neck and worked top-down to the back hem. Sleeves are worked separately and set in.

Size adjustment recommendations:

  • If adjusting length for the Front, add or subtract a multiple of 2.25 inches/5.5cm; this is one 20-row repeat of the Twisted Vines Cable Charts.
  • The sample and instructions allow for a slightly snug sleeve. Check schematic measurements against body upper arm measurements, and if a more generous sleeve is desired, you may wish to make sleeves for 1 size larger.

Techniques:

  • Alternating Long-Tail Cast on
  • Knitted cast on
  • The color bands are worked in Intarsia. Every color section uses its own bobbin of yarn. Twist yarns at the beginning and end of every color change.
  • Slip stitches purlwise.

K3tog: Knit 3 stitches together. 2 stitches decreased.

SSSK: slip the first, the second and the third stitch on the left-hand needle separately knitwise onto the right-hand needle, slide all three stitches back onto the left-hand needle and knit them together through the back loop. 2 stitches decreased.

SSSP: Slip the first, the second and the third stitch on the left-hand needle separately knitwise onto the right-hand needle, slide all three stitches back onto the left-hand needle and purl them together through the back loop. 2 stitches decreased.
