A season rougher than necessary

No personal updates this issue. I will say simply this: if you should encounter a doctor (a specialist even) who stares into space over your long-awaited zoom call to find out what you should be doing about a thing that's been concerning you; if he looks anywhere but at you, doesn't give any information, leaves uncomfortable silences and forces you to offer suggestions for your own care, and his answers to your pointed questions are vague and non-specific, you need another doctor.

Thankfully my GP caught what my specialist doc was too lazy or bored to sort out, and things are better already. Yay for good GPs!

ABOUT THE DEEP FALL ISSUE

This issue, our theme was The Knitted Sweatshirt, and we'd hoped for lots of easy-to-wear pullovers that feel like a friend. I think we got 'em! Our cover pattern is super slick, but not super hard! Amy Gunderson never fails to delight me. Her Structured Seams is such a cool construction, but still just a Tangy knit. If you spin, check out Thyatira...and even if you don't! Because like all Knittyspin patterns, we have a recommendation for commercial yarns you can use instead! A very different look, but the same silhouette. And a whole bunch more creatively composed sweaters await you, along with one wonderful blanket from our friend Kate Harvie. We've got more coming in mid-October in our Deep Fall Surprise too!

In columns, Kate Atherley starts talking about sleeves, a topic she'll continue to cover for a few more issues! Julia Madill gives us super-tidy, super-easy crocheted edges you can add to any knitted fabric! Off you go, then, to check out all the goodies on our front page.

Well, then you'll need to be signed up to our Contributor List. Because I send out the Calls for Submission every three months to the folks on the list. I'll be releasing the entire 2027 list of themes later this year...and for Deep Fall 2027, we're doing something we've never done before! In fact (and I could be wrong), I've never seen a mag do what we're planning to.

I told the Knittyguild yesterday of our plans, and the response was enthusiastic and excited. I know I am jumping out of my skin about it, because – and this isn't a joke – the idea for this issue came to me in a dream. Absolutely true. So yeah, sign up for the mailing list if you've ever wanted to be published in Knitty.

WHAT'S KNITTYGUILD?
